Yeah, I agree that my hammer concept is pretty ungodly complicated. I like that simple-looking one you've got there. I guess it's really just a modification of that earlier gun of yours with the weak bolt that broke on you. But the nice thing is that you get full auto out of it!

I can't see any major show-stoppers other than getting the friction down so the thing can cycle on the limited force available. Would there be any way to increase that force, maybe by providing a larger surface for it to act on?

Wow jack, as usual your gun astounded me. I really like it, even though it's not up to the standard of function you were hoping for. I like the more simple concept (the original(posted 4 posts ago)) and I think you could go far with it. Good luck, and well done.

I am thoroughly confused by the autobreach design. I understand how this prototype works perfectly, but your newer design confuses me.

His autobreech design is basically a blowback mechanism that I think will require heavier ammo than BBs to function. I may try it my self with BBs to see if it works with them or not.

thats impressive even though it doesnt shoot as fast as you wanted it to.

im sure you are smart enough to have tryed this, but have you lubed it up really well? you said that the piston simply isnt moving fast enough and i think if you were you put a bunch of gun oil on it it would slide faster. maybe you already did, i dont know, im just throwing it out there.

Dang it Jack, this is a little disheartening, you turn out this amazing arm in, what a week or two? This is amazing, yet you’re disappointed with its performance.
How the heck am I suppose to keep up with you? :)

Say, what program do you use to make you animated GIFs? Sorry I know it’s off subject, but it’s been buggin’ me for a wile now.

Anywho, can’t wait to see the next one!

Thank you all for the feedback.

Would there be any way to increase that force, maybe by providing a larger surface for it to act on?

The piston is already bigger than I intended, what I could have done to make it reseat faster was use a longer spring that was already under tension - this would have made it perfect for semi-auto, and the current piston could easily have compressed it - but as I said, this is not the design goal of this project. though in the end I might end up making something similar to this but with a "pulsing" valve to give intermittent bursts of air.

I think will require heavier ammo than BBs to function.

I used BBs for the demonstration video but the intended ammo is flared out 0.22 airgun pellets.

but have you lubed it up really well?

I used copious quantities of moly grease - the thing is that since there are no rubber seals, it has to be a tight fit, so there will always be some friction - also, the fact thaqt I cannot get everything 100% centred and aligned causes some drag too, this is why I have higher hopes for the other design as the tubing is pre-made, not cast.

What is that cylinder off of, A airsoft gun?

I thought it was pretty clear it was a syringe tube.

Dang it Jack, this is a little disheartening, you turn out this amazing arm in, what a week or two?

A day or two actually ;) it's all about the epoxy dude hehe.

For the animated gifs, I use MS paint and animation shop. Basically I draw a base structure then draw the moving poarts separately, and copy-paste to create the individual frames, which I then bring together with animation shop. I'm sure there are easier ways of doing this but this is how I roll :)

A 0.25 gram BB travelling at 200 fps won't do much damage, at best it will go through thin cardboard. I do want to try it with a higher flow valve though, I'll do some testing when I get back from work.

The reason it won't go full auto is right there, written on the seringe tube..

"single use only"
How could you miss that??

make a hole( a-hole???haha...possibly a lot of holes might be better) in the side of the tube, wich exhausts the air at the complete end of the stroke, it will help speed up ( and hopefully complete!!) the return stroke.
Using a stronger spring and sanding down the seal of the piston will also help. There is no time for a large quatity of air to leak past it.
Furthermore, I think, when in rest there should be NO dead volume inside the valve. In other words, the piston should fully rest against the back.
This will allow the ( smaller)volume to be exhausted faster and might open the valve faster.

VH_man already pointed that out here

Sound advice, but I don't think I'll be developing this any further - I already have commercially bought CO2 pistols that are semi-auto with the same performance so it's not worth the effort, what I want is continuous fire :D

have you tried hooking it up to the barrel end of one of your coaxials with a cansant feed from the compressor? longer charge time but probably more power.
