This is the line I was pursuing with the rattlesnake, but in this case I prefer to stick to 500 psi and move up to a larger calibre.

If you're willing to work that shock pump, something you could achieve as well ;)

It should be clear here:

Lets pretend I wanted to replicate this with a smaller design, say 1.5mm bore. What would you guys reckon a good main valve would be? Opening time et cetera doesn't need to be magical. I'm kind of thinking of schrader piloted piston..

Something that I've only just noticed... this is not the same original worktop offcut.

What was the issue with the first, or have I missed a post somewhere?

I had an idea similar to this...once I figured out how my triggering is gonna be set up. I wanted to use the small CO2 like in your original idea but I wasnt sure if the little trigger on the on the thing just locked it on to the schrader valve or if it was actually a trigger valve.

Very good point :D

...or, as you suggested earlier, a small ball valve would be perfect for the job.

I must stress however that at such a low calibre, high pressure is very important if you want reasonable performance. As I pointed out in the original thread, I think 3mm is about as low as you can go in real terms. However, no one's stopping you from making a mini micro BBMG :) would be a useful anti-insect device now that summer's coming hehe

It's been done before, have a look.

Nice! The total firing time is still very short though, I'd call it a braap. Maybe restrict the flow from the blowgun for a lower ROF and thus, more funtime per mag.

EDIT:
Have you already maximized the detent? Ideally the BB would pass it at 499 psi...

This was more of a performance experiment that something I would keep, I'm sure that I could have made a larger chamber with a proper vortex block to hold more rounds, but I only have 5,000 of these 3mm bearings and I'm very fond of them, so I'd rather make a "single burst" piston launcher that can be filled to 800 psi and empty a 10-30 BB magazine, similar in concept to this one but smaller calibre, firing more rounds and at near supersonic velocity.

Ideally, yes. I've tightered the screw as far as it will go and the BBs still pass through with relative ease, but its travel is limited by the block... hmmm, I might have some drilling to do...

I am wondering if a ball detent similar could be used at the end of a magazine at say about a 30-45 degree angle with the barrel
(a simple "y" shape),
The air would flow through the barrel creating a vacuum strong enough to pull one shot through the detent,
and when the shot pulls through the detent, the vacuum's force becomes weaker until the shot exits.
After the shot exits the vacuum force is strong enough to pull the next shot down.
Maybe no need for a vortex block or cloud chamber(?)

Sort of like a sandblaster nozzle, only with ball detent added (still haven't done anything with mine).

I suppose some pressure would be wasted between shots, but atleast (maybe) one shot at a time would fire for better consistency and rate of fire(???) 8)

Interesting idea thunderlord, evocative of the "vogt pattern".

On another note, I very much liked the small calibre idea and might be doing something in 3mm for the upcoming contest, or maybe not. We'll see.

wOW!!!
Apparently, That one works and it's at a 90 degree angle to the pressure flow. ...Guess it's feasible!

Speaking of the contest, I was thinking they should have catagories: "things JSR hasn't come up with", or "designs he has". :)

My bet the winner will (for atleast one catagory) involve something related back to yourself...maybe Like Kevin "Bacon points" only with much less steps involved.

BTW, My idea for the contest involves a version of your original blow-forward bolt design, (only in brass for high pressure, with a unique not often mentioned pilot method, and my own blocker pin design added)...Sure would be nice to have goals and a steady schedule... :( :)
Thanks. 8)
