166hand

Unread postAuthor: v3in » Thu Feb 16, 2012 1:13 am

Hi all this is my first post, but not my first build. It has been quite a few years since I have attempted an air gun of any sort, after looking around spudfiles and seeing one of JSR's how to's on a $20 QEV valve I thought I would make myself a plinker.

The 166hand stands for 16gram Co2, 6mm barrel bore, and handheld. I wanted something simple relatively cheap to build and cheap to fire, I am still yet to test out the barrel I am waiting for the Epoxy plug to cure before I even think of firing it.

If you havent already picked up the handheld is powered by a 16gram Co2 bike tyre inflator, which is attached to a slide valve purchased from Ebay, which is then connected to a QEV valve also purchased from Ebay, and the chamber is a piece of 20mm chrome plated copper pipe 150mm long, the barrel is OD12mm and an ID of 6mm.

I am going to attach a trigger to the slide valve and a spring to return the slide back to its original position, this is going to need some tweaking to get the correct spring. I also may make a shell for the handheld if I am happy with power.

I have attached some pictures and will post more as soon as I get some ammunition and the barrel epoxy cures.

Looks promising, and it seems the components have no issues with unregged CO2 from a small chamber.

A simple tee magazine should be a doddle to make.

This is just the sort of thing I was hoping the "under $20" post would inspire :D

I wasn't sure on the chamber I will get a smaller one tomorrow.

JSR the bike inflator is a regulator I'm not sure on the psi output I may add a T piece in and attach a meter. And I was thinking of using an empty Co2 cartridge as a magazine mounted above the barrel with a strong magnet bellow to hold the ball bearings from rolling out the barrel.

Since my original post the handheld has developed a few leaks I think it's time for some JB weld on the threads I don't think Teflon tape is withstanding the freezing temperature of Co2...
