MP5 Strafer

Unread postAuthor: Dornep » Fri Oct 05, 2007 3:08 pm

I've been inspired to make a bbmg by Singularity, this is something I had no desire to do until I saw his
Co2 powered AK47.

I'm going to try and keep mine simple since I've never built any type of strafer before. I'm just going to replace the gear box in my MP5 airsoft gun with a regular blowgun. I'm going to mount it in such a way that the stock trigger on the MP5 can be used. I'm using the stock barrel union/hop up assembly to feed BB's into the gun. I think this will work quiet well and should keep me from doing any major mod's to the gun itself. I'm still debating on how I'm going to power it, but I would like to try propane if it can feed the gun fast enough.

I've pretty much drawn out what I want to do on a picture I've taken of the MP5 with the blow gun inside it. If all goes well the only think that will look different will be a small quick connect fitting on the rear or in the handle.

Has anyone figured out a way to make an adapter for Crosman's Airsource cartridges? Because for these new, realistic airsoft strafers that are coming out of the woodwork they would be perfect for self-containment.
Nice job man, what are the little metal tubes for though?

very impressive, i suggest modding that blowgun. previous experiments with stock blowguns and airsoft bbs we rather pathetic only got fps in the 200 range.

windshrike - you mean the crossman 88g? im working on getting one for a self contained SMG vortex, it wold probably be contained in the upper receiver of the gun.

Thanks for the incouragement guys. I'm laying everything out now, I should have everything I need to get it setup tonight. I would like to try Co2 if I can get it to fire and don't have any problems with the bb feed.

Windshrike, the little metal tubes are just chinese pot metal the makers used to give the gun a realistic weight.

@ Singularity, I would definitley like to try modding the blowgun if it will leave bigger welts.. :D

If you do mean those 88gram cartriges, then an adapter already exists. It is gold and I bought mine at Wal-Mart. I then connected it to an adapter/ball valve that goes from paintball tank threads to 1/8" NPT (used for that hose stuff I believe).

Brilliant mod though...

it looks awesome
but will the stock trigger be enough to push the blowgun properly
if it was me i woudl get a few layers of pvc sheet or aluminum and make a trigger from scratch that will work perfectly

it looks sweet as so far

I think I have the trigger setup pretty good now. I used some hose barbs, dremeled them in half, then stuck some hose on them and rapped them in duct tape. I increased they're diameter with tape until they pressed against the gun's trigger just enough without pressing the blowguns trigger. It doesn't fully depress the blowguns trigger but doesn't miss by much.. I'm going to sandwich the blowgun between two sponges to make sure it stays straight.

I like the idea of the custom trigger but carving it up so that the spring will return it will be a PITA... If I have any trouble it will more then likely be the trigger setup or ammo feed.

I must say mate, that is very very clever.

I'm actually investigating hooking up a realistic trigger and handle to a blowgun, I'm going to remember your idea for the future, but ill give you credit :D

Thats the cool thing about it. You can take an el cheapo airsoft gun and turn into a coke can penetrating spray and prayer. Right now that's wishful thinking but I think it will perform better then the plastic gearbox that used to power it.

I just happen to have an old mechanical oil pressure gauge kit, so I used the fittings and hose from it.. The hose is super tiny so that will probably be my downfall if it doesn't shoot very hard. I will have to get some more fittings tomorrow to get it hooked up to the propane bottle. I've done everything that can be done inside the gun so i will put it back together and take some pics. I'm glad you guys like it, maybe we will get to see a new generation of strafer's.

@goose_man: Thank you so much. Do you happen to know the exact name of the part you bought?

Dornep: I love how you used the original trigger, and I only have two things I'd like to see added: a stock(of course) and a longer barrel hidden by a fake suppressor, mimicking the SD version.

He does have one, it's retractable...

Like HaiThar said the stock is retractable and if the thing shoots I will order a tight bore barrel since the brake line isn't very "tight bore".
