nerf gun for airsoft

Unread postAuthor: fretmelter » Tue Feb 12, 2008 8:35 pm

ok i was wondering....is using a modded nerf gun for a airsoft gun a good idea. I wanted a cheap gun and i think i can mod a spring powered nerf gun to shoot bbs. Like a bgger spring, taking out the air restricter, and adding a loading mechanism. Is this a good idea or should i just buy a airsoft gun (again)?

well, with serious barrel moding and such you could at least get it to work, but I have no clue how you would get the loading mech to work. I dont see why you would do this when you can get a decent airsoft pistol for like $5, but feel free to try it. You should at least be able to get a ramrod version of an airsoft gun...

Converting a nerf gun into an airsoft gun would be be practical if you just like to go around the house and and shoot targets and stuff. It wouldn't be very fieldable though. I would buy a cheap, but nice spring airsoft pistol or shotgun/rifle if you are looking to play airsoft with friends. Check around places like www.airsoftforum.com to find reviews on good cheap airsoft guns. The thrill of making something of your own and shooting it is unbeatable though. I say do both; make one out of a nerf gun and buy an airsoft gun.

I actually did buy a $5.00 el cheapo flea market spring airsoft gun and replaced it's plastic 7mm ID barrel with a barrel that had an ID of about 6.08mm. It used to shoot miserably (like a range of about 10 feet), but now it works considerably well (75ft range).

Well I suppose you could put a huge ass handyman spring with a 25 pound draw weight into a night finder Nerf gun like I did. that would be a pretty sick single shot. This reminds me of the homemade nerfgun I have planned, and it will be sick. I'm considering making a sleeved bb barrel. Then again I could just empty 200 bbs into my 1.5 inch barrel and use one shot to blow the crap out of some unsuspecting noob.

I had a modified Nightfinder that shot stefan darts about 65 feet (flat), and it had an airsoft barrel attachment that was removable. It was just an old airsoft barrel from a cheap $20.00 Walmart spring powered shotgun with a micro dart without the tip on the back of the barrel, then hot glued in place. Nerf micro darts fit in 1/2" CPVC which is what barrel my night finder had. It shot about 320-350 FPS with .2g BBs because sometimes it would penetrate both sides of a coke can, and other times would only shoot through 1.

But the Nightfinder is a rather weak nerf gun in comparison to the Titan. I can get that to shoot AA batteries 200 feet, which weigh 24g. I can't imagine that thing chambered for a projectile that weighs 1/5th of a gram and has less air-resistance.

Damn dude.... a couple years ago that was all i did. Mod those nerf guns into airsoft and go wild. I gotta look for the link, but I used to use a pretty simple system that worked great. Yes it was semi-auto. Anyways.... man the memories.. ill find that link for ya.

I made one out of a nite finder and made a pen top magazine. The barrel was a carbon fiber arrow. It shot pretty good 75ft. But it did shoot 2 bbs at once sometimes.
