Airsoft grenade

Unread postAuthor: koolaidman » Sun May 11, 2008 9:55 am

Hey guys, for a while ive been brainstorming a way to make a grenade that sprays bbs without a "hot" explosion and without the high velocity metal shrapnel. The design is basically a 1/4" schrader valve to a 1/4" bv to a close nipple with epoxy and a hole, slowing down flow, this eventually pressurizes the chamber balls until it fails. The bv is opened by a spring once the pin is removed and you release the handle. The handle and the thing housing the pin will be either aluminum or steel strips attached to the bv trigger but nut, bolt, and washers. So, i would use a shock pump to get it around 200-300 psi, yank pin, relase handle, bv opens, and throw. I will probably increase the space between the bv and the schrader. The other unknown is what material should i use as the chamber to hold the bbs. The first one that came to mind was a balloon. This would suck though because it wouldnt go above 1 psi, it'd just expand. The only other one i can think of would be a ping pong ball. These wont expand, and will actually break apart like a balloon and not just crack. The only down side would be having to epoxy on a new one each time it's used. This is just a concept, please voice opinion. do you even see this working?

looks plausible. nice work. I expect a prototype by the end of the day, got it mister?! lol

I think it would work very well :D . a balloon can hold more than 1 psi, but your chamber wouldn't have enough volume to fill it. instead of epoxying the ping pong ball on you could drill a hole in it and screw it to the grenade with a 1/4 nipple. id like to see this design in action.

that is wonderful thinking
I used to use the fircracker powered ones but didnt like carring around a lighter and igniting the fuse around propane powered guns.
I truthfully cant see that not working, although it would be an annoyance at figuring out how to attatch and disattatch the spent grenades from the part with the schrader valve quickly.

idk have you seen my burst disk grenade launcher? You can take my design for it and use it as a grenade that is effective...

Same concept different shell.. when the grenade hits the ground the nail at the end of the cap hits the burst disk (aluminum foil) pierces it and you get a sudden burst of air that launches the cap off but instead of the cap and the nail flying and hitting someone it is tied to para cord or some other strong string that keeps it from flying away...

well that's a pretty different concept david. That would be an awesome idea for a projectile. It would be real fun to shoot at something solid, however, that would be worthless for a mine. The cap would still be pressed down by your foot and bbs would not escape. Heres how i would do it.

But, back to my design, this afternoon i was thinking of a better way to seal the ping pong ball without epoxy. I think i could drill the ball a little wider than the nipple, slide it on and physically press it against and oring on the outside with something like duct tape..

oh I forgot to mention something about my design... there is also the option for holes on the top of the lid and having it so it doesnt fly off at all... so even if you step on it it would still fire up and out...

why not just use two burst disk like materials, where the nail goes through a weaker one, and the stronger one keeps the bbs out of the chamber. sooo when the stronger disk is punctured, the pressure exceeds the outer burst disks strength and does its thing...

Alright, cool. But, this was about my idea, david has his own thread on that. Im still not sure on what material to use for the shell, if i use a ping pong ball though, i am gonna need a decent way to seal it on there.

i know this has nothing to do with your grenade, but it might ease you to know that their are easily accessed grenades. But on your topic, i might say that a type of cellophane or some material like it could possibly hold the pressure.

Great idea! I think you should go with the balloon instead of the ping pong ball for ease of attaching, and slightly increase the size of the chamber between the ball valve and the schrader so you can use lower pressures if you don't have a shock pump.

hey guys, i forgot about this idea for a while. Today i realized that i had an unused bv and schrader at my disposal. I decided to test it out. With only the volume between the schrader and bv it filled up a balloon decently. I think ill look for smaller balloons, maybe waterballoons and extend the chamber. I might possibly have a prototype in the future to show .

okay let me clear some stuff up koolaidman's idea is just like pvc arsenal's idea
http://www.spudfiles.com/forums/air-del ... t6083.html
which has probably been thought of even before him, there was another post that used a ball valve but I cant find it, this doesn't use a burst disk which will provide better sealing and predictable bursting

Davidvaini mentioned a fairly decent but off topic design that is completely different, from that of discussion, it is not a time delay design it is a impact design that I had built before
http://www.spudfiles.com/forums/new-pne ... 10231.html

anyways koolaidman your design is fine but it would be better if you used better bursting materials like plastic bags, and sealed them on using a threaded connection or union, also under it's curent state it is very difficult to make it "throwable" especially for your possible targets
