I have questions about first BBMG

Unread postAuthor: Pieguy14 » Tue Mar 03, 2009 9:23 pm

Alright, I've always had an interest in BBMGs, because my parents will not let me get a BB gun. I have taken apart many airsoft guns, and have modified these. But I wanna get serious, and I wanna build a gun that my friends will crap in their pants when they see it fire.

Alright, I will refresh the questions... New questions below

Thanks for your help guys!
I will get started after May/20 (my birthday)

Keep putting up advice, because I have a few more questions following the ones above...

1. After I made the vortex cylinder, would I attach that to a piece of PVC to the end as an ammo holder?

2. Have you guys added anything that will make it look cooler? Because a removable scope would be cool with like a weaver rail, but I also wanna have a bare crosshair, just so you can use it without a scope.

3. What PSI for the Co2/Air should I put it to? I want it to at least go to 300-400 fps or higher.

4. Air supply? It must be constant. As in an air compressor, or a CO2 tank? I need something that will last me thru a few airsoft battles without running out. ( I mean not being a complete idiot by holding down the trigger the whole battle )

5. Whats the difference between compressed air and CO2? Is CO2 lighter? Or what are the advantages? Because compressed air is a hell of a lot cheaper, and CO2 is pretty expensive. I know people with paintball guns and they spend an average of 500$ a year on CO2? I just kinda wanna get good preformace, and a good cost.

6. What are the pros ( good things ) and cons ( bad things ) of hop up?

Thanks Spudfiles!!!

PS: I am building this without my parents noticing, so I will try as hard as I can to post this onto Spudfiles when it is done. Im trying to make an M4 Carbine design. ( you may notice I posted a few of these questions on pg. 1

IT WILL NOT BE A M4 CARBINE!!! It will be the design of a austrailian gun, called the Steyr. It looks like I can put a magazine ( PVC with a lot of BBs ) under it, and secure the back of the weaver rail with metal supports on the sides.

Hooray! You've done some research.

1. Assuming you're shooting airsoft bbs (6mm) then some tube with an inner diameter close to that which gives you several options. You can buy or salvage an airsoft barrel or use brakeline from an auto store.
2. Preferably regulated CO2 from a paintball tank regulated down to a suitable pressure via a Palmer's stabilizer or similar. It's really the only option if you plan on using it in a airsoft game. Another option would be a backpack mounted scuba tank, but that might be out of your price range. Vortexes are pretty inefficient with air use, and you'll go through tanks quickly. For pleasure shooting a compressor with a large tank would do.
3. Either would work, but if you want a magazine I would suggest using Davidvaini's vortex cap idea.
4. That's really up to you. Look around for some ideas but there's no limit to your imagination.
5. Blowgun is the usual but a 1/8" push button valve from Mcmaster would be even better for shorter, more controlled bursts. Check out Neospud's Mark III to see one used.
6. If using a vortex cap, magazines will be easy to make.

I hope this helps and is what you're looking. If you need clarification on anything just ask.

(edit: beaten....)

1. Get it as close to 6 mm as possible. Some people suggest arrow shafts from wal mart as your barrel.

2. Most people use air compressor. You can use anything that can supply a constant supply of air, ie a big a$$ air tank, Co2 tank and regulator etc.

3. A popular design is made from bondo. But you can make it from anything that is durable enough.

4. You choose this one.

5. A blowgun should suffice.

6. Search the wiki, there are a whole bunch of different ideas.

All in all just use the search button and look through the wiki. You will find everything you want to know.

1. As stated, 6mm as close as possible, if you want to spend some extra cash buy a tight bore 6.02mm barrel that is at least 8 inches if you want some decent power. If you want to get something cheap use brakeline that is 5/16". Tightbore is better but less cost efficient where as brakeline is the opposite of that. The tight bore I'm assuming also has a barrel slit on top for hop-up, so you can add hop up more easily.

2. - Use an air compressor
- Just build your own gigantic air tank that you pump up with your a psi rated bike pump (one with gauge) *about 3gallon.
- Portability = regulate CO2 tank, 120 psi will give you about 400FPS, from what I've researched.

3. You can use a vortex cap for an inline but it really your decision. I think there are people who have used plexiglass or something where they glue a whole bunch of sheets and just drilled a hole. The size of the hole you would want is 3/4" as it's used most in vortex and known to be the most powerful and efficient I think.

4. Well, look in the bbmg showcase there is a guy who has made a BBMG out of PVC pipes and stuff... and looks like an MP5.

5. Any blowgun should be good. they're usually pressure rated above 200PSI... correct me if I'm wrong.

6. Look in spudwiki above. There is 4 different known ways to make a BBMG. 3 of are vortex designs.

hope that helped lol... too wordy i know :(

It's Nerf or Nothing.

Don't start crying when I play this as my hobby, Paintball, Airsoft and Nerf are equally good hobbies, except you can play Nerf in public. Good day! Hmph!

Just let me jump in here, I you want a very poratble gun, though not automatic, or even semi auto, you could use a small had pump for getting air supply. Assuming that your air chamber is small, you would only need to pump one or two times to pressurize for a shot. Also, It would be cool for a pump action shotgun. I bought a hand pump from walgreens today for $8, it has a 120 psi max and comes with a little bit of air hose. Good Luck on your gun!

You guys are probably asking yourself WHY MAY 20?!
Because I got suspended from school for 2 days. My parents are really getting mad at me for no reason... So yeah.

Oh shoot dads pulling into the driveway, Ill try to post whenever he isn't here, Im not supposed to be on the computer

yes you can do my vortex cap design or you could do my other design, it uses a airsoft barrel and hopup assembly.. you can use the body of the airsoft rifle as well to get it to look like the real thing.. all you would then have to do is hook up a remote line to an air compressor or use a co2 inflator like I did.. internal layout would be like this:

http://www.spudfiles.com/forums/bbmg-ai ... 16151.html

This way you can actually use real airsoft magazines without any modification. In other words you are pretty much taking out the gearbox of the airsoft gun and replacing it with a remote line to an blowgun or co2 inflator.

Here is a link to one of my other designs, the vortex cap:

http://www.spudfiles.com/spud_wiki/inde ... x_cap_BBMG

In whatever design you choose I would highly suggest getting an airsoft barrel because brakeline has way too much blowby and sacrifices power.

Alright guys, my gun is going to be a Steyr, equipped with a shotgun-like blast for a secondary fire.

The secondary fire is going to be a micro conbustion, the fuel will be hairspray, put into a a small chamber, a back-clicker will be the firing ingnition.

It will be a full circle for the vortex block. I will put the magazine ontop of the weaver rail, kind of like a P90. A flashlight and laser pointer will be attached to both sides, ( Me like attachments  ) Iron sights will be used, or if I can find a scope at like Sports Athority, I will buy that. I will be running it off of compressed air, because C02 is to expensive.

I will also be using a 6mm barrel, and a blowgun for the trigger. ( I am not sure how much PSI I will be running it at, suggestions are wanted )

It will be a full black gun, and I will notify you guys when I am done. I will try to get some supplies while I can :)

If one of you guys know how to spraypaint something camo, please PM me, or post on this tread...

THANKS SPUDFILES!!

Combustion's are typically not allowed on an airsoft field.

Also I see that your first post was edited. You said you don't know why your parents are mad at you.. perhaps its because you got suspended for 2 days, and you are building something behind their back. Idk.. some parents dont like it when their kids are suspended from school or when they do stuff behind their back.. makes it hard for them to trust you..

Since there is no trust, that is probably why they don't allow you to have a BB gun. This is all assumptions based on your posts though, I don't know your family, but I would always suggest building more trust with your parents.
