A rough guide:
$200 for motors
$300 for electronics
$100 for bearings, rod, socket screws etc
$120 for the HDPE used for the gantry and Z Axis
$50 for MDF and odds and sods
$50 for the Ozito router

The software is freeware/shareware and I have lot's of spare PC's lying round here.

I had a mental budget of "under $1000". That may sound a lot but considering a real CNC router is upwards of $6000 just at the entry level its not too bad. Besides which, I made it myself, learned heaps on the way and had a lot of fun.

You can certainly do it cheaper, the original specs that I worked from used all MDF, roller skate bearings and gas pipe rails and had a budget of about $500.
