Well, ive been trying for a LONG time to make an airsoft springer with a respectable velocity, and it basically comes down to this:

1. the force the spring applies is going to be the firing pressure of the BB.
2. Build a hop-up system.

you may be wondering why to use a hop-up, heres the reason

when you fire a spring gun, the piston accelerates quite slowly. this makes a pressure wave that increases slowly, and the speed that the piston accelerates at is the same speed as the BB will go, ak NOT FAST.

If you add a hop-up, the Piston has to create a large amount of pressure behind the BB before it fires. when the BB moves, the internal pressures of the gun are now aorund 30 PSI. much better than 5 PSI without a hop-up. if you want a simmilar idea go fire a normal spring air gun. fire it dry, and then fire it with a BB. note the difference in sound. that difference in sound is the pressure building up behind the BB before it goes out the barrel. Eventually, i will post a picture of a hop-up, but basicaly its a chunk of rubber tubing 10mm long, with a 5mm peice left normal and 5mm with most of it cut off, save a small chunk at the top of the barrel. make sure the tubing holds the BB nicely, but wont let it fly around........

wow i typed alot........ but theres alot involved in a spring-air airsoft gun......

Here’s my two cents:

If you’re going to make your own airsoft gun, and have no experience in springers, then make something bigger first. I’m assuming you’ve seen/heard of Bolt Sniper, do something similar to his FAR. If you want to use it in airsoft just load the shells with shot, oh and by AR15/M16 main spring I’m hoping he means the buffer spring, because the ar15’s main spring is tiny, if you make one ask for a buffer spring.

When you get around to making the 6mm, if you decide to make one that is, try taking a piece of rubber tubing that an airsoft BB will stick in (probably 5mm, but it may not be as most of the time the ID of pipe and tubing ain’t what they say it is.) , cut a piece of it about a half an inch long, then cut away part of one end to where you have a ring about a quarter inch thick with a prong sticking off one side about a quarter inch long and a quarter to an eighth of an inch thick. Ain’t sure if the will work, it’s just a suggestion.

Personally I would make a scatter gun. Airsoft BBs are not the most accurate form of projectile, so if you make a shotgun and have 20-40 BBs going down range you’ve got a lot grater chance of hitting what you’re aiming for.

But that’s just my two cents…
