Chamber Fan Placement

Unread postAuthor: biggsauce » Fri Apr 11, 2008 1:19 pm

Has anyone mounted a chamber fan say, midway in their chamber and had any trouble with it melting? I would figure the ideal spot for a fan would be at the opposite end of the barrel, so less heated gas has to pass through the fan. Although the fan wont be exposed to heat very long, the fact that more gas has to pass through it may be more likely to cause damage.

Has anyone had adverse effects to a mid-chamber fan? This reason I ask is because I'm considering building a chamber extension comprised of a 4"endcap and 4" male adapter and placing the fan inbetween that and the 4" female adapter/cleanout adapter.

The heat energy in the gas is too less to melt the fan.
The only way they break down is when the gas blows past it too fast (and thus a fan near the barrel breaks down quickly).

Mine is mounted close to the end opposite of the barrel and I haven't had any problems yet. I can't see an advantage to mount it further in, after all it's a closed environment. I recently started to use mapp gas and if I have problems with the extra heat I will certainly list them

I seen sgort87 post pics of melted fan, I think it came from the back pack combustion. What was it called, The Proton Pack I think.

Here is the thread, talks about the over heating on page 2, the pic of the melted fan isn't in that thread, but he did post a pic in another one if you feel like looking for it.

For those who haven't seen sgnort's work it will be a interesting search, fun to!

That overheating would be only after a period of extreme rapid fire action I suppose.
