Law Of "That Is So Cool" - in other words, hoping that whichever officers you're talking to focus on the awesomeness of your cannon rather than it's legal status.

And that will really depend on how much damage you did with it or who complains about the noise levels and if you are acting suspiciously.

Of course. However, I'm on good terms with all my neighbours, don't use my launchers off my property, and don't damage anything that wasn't mine to begin with.

I obviously can't cover passers by hearing the noise, but if the police should turn up talking about "gunshots" or "air weapons" (they always insist on the term "weapon", which in most cases is just plain wrong, because it implies it's being used to harm or threaten), I do own a UK legal air rifle, which often gets used at the same time as my launchers - if I should happen to show them that instead, I'm not exactly bending things, as by shot count, it makes up the majority of my shooting, so the odds would be good that's what caused someone to contact the police in the first place.

As an extra example I would like to add: even water can cut steel when the speed is high enough.

It is indeed very annoying how people call the police using words like "weapons", "gunshots", "firearms", "rifle" or even "explosives".
They dont know what they're talking about; when people hear a loud BANG they assume that this is the work of solid propellants. Most people dont know how loud compressed air can be, and also dont know the power of it. (Oh, its just air) Its ridiculous what people get into their heads, oh boy, people can be so dumb.
However, when I talk to people about my hobby, I make sure to leave certain words out. And when people do mention those words, I quickly jump onto it explaining why that is not the correct term.

Same story, two sides.

I do exactly the same.

"Spudgun", "launcher" and "pneumatic cannon" the terms I normally use for my creations. "Gun", "Weapon" and "Firearm" are right out, and I'll usually correct people for using them.
