cheap fuel injection method for hairspray

Unread postAuthor: ukejosh » Mon Jun 14, 2010 10:46 pm

I am new here, in fact I am only here to share my findings with a simple combustion spud cannon, some random piece from a Oriely auto parts and a few inches of fuel line also from oriely. you can expect a full review including pictures in the next two days.

But basically you can inject the hairspray straight through the hose through a one way valve and bam a more reliable, easier way to get hairspray into your combustion chamber without even unscrewing the back cap

Dorman part #47149 universal vacuum check valve, with a small piece of fuel line over it(usually free in small amounts). both of which can be found at an o'reilly auto parts store for under 5$
or here:

all you have to do is:
1 drill a whole in the cap that the fuel line fits through snuggly
2 put the fuel line over the white end of the valve
3 insert with the hose sticking outside of the cannon
4 glue if you want, but mine has a perfect seal without it

do you have a good way to vent the chamber once fired? also have you checked out metered propane?

welcome to spudfiles!

why not just make a metered propane setup. It really isn't all that expensive to piece together.

Yea, that's definitely going to get you at least a tazer.

well, after each use i take the cap off to blow all the exhast out with a fan or just by blowing through the barrel really hard, so no i do not have a good way to vent it, but when i compare it to the normal spray and then screw the cap on method, the spud goes almost twice as far.

well the beauty of this setup is that i have a cap for a propane tank that converts it into an aerosal nozzle, so i can use propane or any kind of aerosol on it.

I have looked at the metered propane ones, yet I have not decided if they would be overall better. as far as i have seen of them, they can be complicated, and time consuming to fire. Are they more powerful, what are the advantages to them.

and thanks im glad to be here

well metered propane are more powerful and mony saving because you use the exact amount of fuel and don't waste any.

it might take a bit longer to inject fuel, but you barely notice
also wont junk up you chamber because your using propane/mapp

The pole needs another answer:

Ya it's a new idea but it isn't significantly better than "spray-n-pray" and not nearly as good, and probably more expensive, than a $2 meter.

For those people that for some reason really enjoy spray-fueled launchers, this is a good idea. Yeah, you'll have to open the back anyway, but when you spray through the back, so much fuel is wasted, and with draft affecting the mix, it's very hard to meter. With a valve, this will waste much less fuel, and make metering much more accurate.

Now, what kind of check valve to use? Most valves wont let a straw go through it so easily.

exactly, i suppose this idea is not meant for this website, it is meant for the average teenager that thinks it would be a cool idea to make a potato gun. you guys are dedicated hobbists that do this all the time.

either way this is the part:

Dorman part #47149 universal vacuum check valve, with a small piece of fuel line over it(usually free in small amounts). both of which can be found at an o'reilly auto parts store for under 5$
or here:

1 drill a whole in the cap that the fuel line fits through snuggly
2 put the fuel line over the white end of the valve
3 insert with the hose sticking outside of the cannon
4 glue if you want, but mine has a perfect seal without it
