Disconnecting leaky regulator

Unread postAuthor: ovie707 » Sun Aug 14, 2011 7:32 pm

Hey guys I was wondering if any of you has had a problem with the regulator that hooks up to the propane leaking. I'm pretty sure its not the connection because I've taped it up with yellow gas line tape pretty good. I think I may have gotten a bad regulator.

I would like to disassemble the propane adapter from the propane tank but there's just one problem. I don't have a shut off valve between the tank and the regulator. I've seen a lot of people who's propane tank adapter has a twist knob on it, but mine doesn't. What would happen if I unscrewed the tank from the regulator? Would it blow up in my face due to the pressure? Is there a safe way to disconnect the tank if I didn't include a shut-off valve?

EDIT: Also whenever this leak is occurring, not matter how high I turn up the regulator, the pressure dial goes up above where I have it set and continues to leak. Might it have something to do with the pressure in the tank?

Lol, the propane tank has a pin valve on it that the attachment pushes when it is threaded on. As you unthread it, the pin rises and the tank closes. Just take the regulator right off.

Yea I figured the pin valve would stop the flow. I was just worried about the pressure that's already in the construction of the meter pipe between the tank and the first ball valve.

What, an invasion of epoxy soldiers led by jack? When you think about it, yeah that would be a movie.

Just disconnect it, the pressure thats inside it is not a big deal, just hold it down nice and tight so it won't rocket off.

Also, I was wondering If it was a problem with the regulator for it to be leaking like that. Should i get a new one or is there a way to fix it?
