How do I rig a camera flash?

Post questions and info about combustion (flammable vapor) powered cannons here. This includes discussion about fuels, ratios, ignition systems, safety, and anything else relevant.

Ah yes. Make sure the battery is out.

Otherwise it's possible for it to keep recharging

And that wouldn't be nice

EDIT: I checked Spud Wiki and I realized I could just cram that whole system into a project box with a couple official-looking LED's and a "kill switch" on it. Radio Shack should have that stuff, right?

I just read that you do not need to use an ignition coil to get an extremely powerful spark out of a camera flash circuit. 300 volts is enough, as there is a primary capacitor that first ionizes a very small path across the electrode gap, providing an extremely low resistance path for the high voltage cap to discharge through. This causes a massive quantity of gas around the electrodes to be ionized, creating more of a large flash rather than a small spark. I wonder how it would work with my 3 arc setup. I may have to try this.

You need to dismantle the bit around the flash tube and make sure you get all three wires.

Theres only one wire coming off the really high voltage but really low power capacitor that ionises the air and thats usually attached to a metal strip which should be arranged close to the gap between the two main capacitor wires.

You get about a 1cm spark using the ionising capacitor to help the 300v capacitor.

Very informative video...
Well it's Halloween so I have to do things (guard the house, lead little sisters around nieghborhood, et cetera) so I'll probly get started on that tomorrow. Let's all hope I don't fry myself again.
