Spray n' pray

Unread postAuthor: SpudBlaster15 » Thu May 24, 2007 10:24 pm

One of the most enjoyable aspects of spudding for me is experimenting with different fuels, and comparing their performance. My metered propane cannon is fun, but going back to the origins of spudding is often more so. I was looking through a local store yesterday, when I came across a type of body spray that I hadn't previously seen. It is called "Matrix Zone".

The ingredients are listed in the order:

Denatured Alcohol, Butane, Isobutane, Propane, Isopropyl Myristate, Parfum.

When I attempted to use it in my basic cannon (14.5" x 3" chamber, 45" x 1.5" barrel), I sprayed in a 1 second burst, and upon firing, the spud was expelled at great velocity. Has anyone else tried this fuel? It is extremely cheap, under $2 for a 155ml can.

Haven't tried that stuff, but my friend has some of his sister's hairspray that has ingredients similar to that. I have an empty can he gave me, but it's too much so I probably won't buy any.
First 5 ingredients:
Alcohol SB-40 (denatured alcohol), propane, isobutane, dimethyl ether, butane

Kinda off topic here, but does anyone know what pressures most aerosole cans run at?
It would be cool to stick a schrader valve in one and fill it up with propane. You could just take it with you instead of attaching a propane meter to your gun.

I use static guard and get a pretty consistent ~175-200 yards. I tried carb cleaner but it didn't work very well. I think it's because it wasn't spraying fine enough.

Static Guard eh, I think I will buy some tomorrow and try it. Have you compared it to other fuels?

Uh, not too much actually. Some people suggested it so I got some. it worked pretty darn good so I never tried too much else that I didn't have laying around the house already. I've gotten a few shots from it upwards of 250 yards. Of course, my cannon is over 8 1/2 feet long.

Ah, but the propane meter allows you to insert the optimum amount of propane into your chamber, while spraying with an aerosol is very hit-and-miss.

Aerosol isn't hit and miss after, say, fifteen or so shots. 2 seconds works 100% of the time for me. Once you get used to it, your brain turns off your finger when the spray time is over.
