Well I was able to finally shoot some 1.7" UHMW and PVC rounds this weekend. I went on a desert camp out and brought my barrel insert for the Venom and started shooting.
I am highly impressed with the performance of these rounds, both PVC and UHMW. Keep in mind that the barrel insert was slightly too small for golf balls (I slammed them through anyway though) and I was shooting without a muzzle break. So, the rounds fit very very snugly with no wiggle room at all, and they fit so tight I had to remove the o-rings from the UHMW rounds sometimes.
The rounds flew very very straight and accurately and this was without a muzzle break. Maybe this had to do with the extra tight fit. Anyway, I am sorry to say that the only video I have is this sad and pathetic one below. I didn't have a camera and had to ask a bystander to video a shot with his cell phone.
The PVC rounds flew just about as good as the UHMW rounds from what I could tell, but about 2 of the PVC rounds' end caps came flying off in the barrel upon firing. They were being shot out of my Venom at 2x. This only happened 2 or 3 times most out of maybe 20 shots or so, and keep in mind they were tight fitting. The UHMW rounds would slam into a rocky hillside and were actually able to be reused so long as they didn't hit a large rock or something. So those UHMW rounds are super resilient, PVC rounds explode on impact unless shooting something soft.
In the video you can see a small hillside with some old school PC monitors and a sheet metal plate. We shot the plate and it penetrated it, it was maybe 18ga or so, not too sure. The point is those round are no joke and they hit hard as hell.
Behind the small hill you can see a larger hill, that hill was quite high and we had targets way up there as well. The rounds flew straight and flat right up to the top of that large hill as well which might be around 150 yards or so to the top, maybe further from where we were shooting. I was impressed at how hard they hit and how fast and straight they flew. It didn't feel like shooting a spud gun anymore at all.
Anyway, heres the little video and I hope to make a better one sometime.

On the UltimateSpudGun website they shoot those things through almost anything and pull them out of the rubble and reuse them with very reliable results. I've talked with Mike from ultimatespudgun about ordering some custom 3" rounds for our ME1-05H Howitzer. Will probably get those in withing a few weeks and commence testing 3" UHMW rounds against everything we have, not to mention we'll use them to sight in the gun at various distances. I've got an old broke 32" TV at home that should give some fairly impressive high speed results. Moonbog, thanks for the research and solidifying my decision to order a few these rounds.
