i am finally ready to unveil my new AK-47 styled vortex gun, it has been in the prototyping stage for a few months now, but i finally think i got it right! i had the trigger over pressurize the chamber many times which resulted in the separation of vortex chamber and the trigger twice. but the newest version (version 3) uses CA glue reinforced epoxy putty construction (as opposed to the old 60 minute epoxy) and it is very sturdy. it has endured 4 days of battle testing without fail although there have been a few jams it was nothing a quick shake could not fix. i do realize its not a complete copy of a real AK mostly becuase i don't feel like screwing around with something that already works. the front is pretty much a complete copy of a real AK but the back section runs into functionality problems with the cam lock and pressure washer handle. i will never substitute looks for functionality, and as of right now the performance is crazy! and all of the pieces that are meant for "looks" (outer barrel, gas tube, front grip, upper receiver, ect) were scraps i found on the floor that were either sanded or painted then glued onto the gun. at the most recent game i played a kid ran across the field about 120 ft away from me and this gun left welts, im considering lowering the pressure but i have set a minimum range of engagement of 60ft at which point i take them out with my crappy gas pistol.

...specs...

type---------------------vortex bbmg
block material----------layered lexan
block style--------------half hole
rate of fire--------------100+ RPS
range--------------------150 to 200ft
chamber diameter-----1.5 inches
chamber capacity------2000 to 3000 rounds
operating pressure-----60-100psi (CO2)
primary valve----------8 GPM pressure washer handle
power source-----------5lb regulated CO2 system
barrel size--------------6.04mm tigthbore
barrel length-----------12 inches

...future upgrades...

front sight
side panels
selector switch (just for looks)
ejector port
bb counter (very close to reality, would use a pic micro controller to count each bb as its shot and tell me when im low on ammo)

Full view of the gun

The front grip ( you can tell i dint use the right paint, its chipping off the barrel)

The piping is mostly hidden by the AK mag (idea from another vortex gun)

A view down the length of the gun

A crazy ghetto sight made from aluminum flashing

The 5lb tank with 0 to 120psi regulator (has issues if its used above 90 though)

5lb CO2 tank lable

The tank in the camo backpack (with some bbs, a quick disconnect adapter, and a spare battery)

My Gear - 5lb regulated CO2 backpack, AK vortex, a cheap mask modified to rival a $80 one, a camo vest, and a huge commie rifle (AK with SVD Dragunov kit, a a bunch of upgrades)

Dragunov has almost completely revamped internals and a 6.03 tighbore, 380fps with .2g, 340fps with .25g (what i normally use), and is dead accurate up to 120ft and can hit a man sized target at 150.

Awesome, the Blowgun looks a bit cumbersome, but it's still awesome.

A stock would make it a whole lot more awesome but it rocks, love it.

That thing is beautiful. Looks like a lot of time and effort went into it. It may not be exact, but that slight deviation from the actual design makes it more aesthetically pleasing in my mind.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that CO2 setup wasn't designed for airsoft, was it? It looks a bit too industrial for that.

lol, its meant to pressurize beer kegs and soda dispensers. it works perfectly for this though, last me atleast 20,000 rounds ands it only weights like 20lbs (with the reg attached and a full tank of co2)

Great design. Getting the pipe fittings and block to fit into the gun body must have been difficult. I love the keg pressurizer its so awesome specially for powering straffers.

Freakin Awesomage!

I love it! Has anyone ever done anything like this before? I wonder if this could be squeezed into an MP5? BTW who made the AK47 that you scavenged your parts from?

I don't know what to say other then... EXCELLENT!headbang

I wish I could make stuff like this, but unfortunately, I can't. Getting a scrap airsoft gun and turning it into a vortex strafer would definitely be too big of a project for my parents to not find out about. Looks like a great gun.
Just one thing; you should seriously put a red something on the end of the barrel. Police in my area would shoot before asking questions about something like that.

Very cool! How much did it cost you not including the CO2 tank and reg?

Dornep - the only part i got from a actual AK was the clip and it was made by CYMA, the rest i found on the ground. for example the upper gas tube is part of weed sprayer with a piece of lexan glued to it, the lower gas tube is a really small solid brake line, the sight is a piece of aluminum flashing, and the wooden grip was fashioned from a solid block of wood using a palm sander and a dremel.

noname - wait you make all these strafers and your parents wont let you even have a cheap airsoft gun? and there usually is some orange tape on the end of the barrel i just took it off for the picture

spudgunnerwryyyyy - yea i built the gun in stages if i had to preform any type of maintenance on the block i would be screwed theres no way im getting it apart now

origin unknown - well the CO2 system was probably the most expensive part at $100 total, the pressure washer handle was $20, the cam lock was $14, the rest of the parts probably totaled around $25 so.... grand total is about $160, and far superior to its AEG counterpart at that price! that means about $60 without the CO2
