I welded a spudgun about 30cm long with the barrel. i use a BBQ igniter wired with a sparkplug.
I sprayed som butane/propane refill and loaded with a little sharpened bolt with tape around it to make it air tight, then i shot at a apple and it only went about half way throug. earlyer i made a little blackpowder gun with the same barrel and i shot throu 3 apples no problemo.
Is it more power in blackpowder that gas? i really got a real bang with the powder, the neighburs wonderd whata hell was going on. |

Definitely - the performance you described is normal for a combustion of that size. If you want real power with this sort of laucher, you're going to have to think bigger. |

As you go bigger the gap will close between the two because the gas increases drastically in power whereas the blackpowder is unfeesable to increase in size at a certain point and will plateau. |

Black powder would give you more power, but the great thing about spudguns is that there isn't much residue, they can have simple electric ignition without one-time-use ignitors, and the fuel is EVERYWHERE. Go into anyones house and it will contain spudgun propellent...errm, I mean aerosol cans. |

Why would you put that stuff in a cannon, it smells like fart spray |

| thanks for the answers! Then i have to build a bigger combustion chamber but with the same small barrel and i will get those 3 apples |

Why not build it with a bigger chamber and barrel, to maximize efficiency, because your barrel is just as important as the chamber |

| If your ratio is already fairly decent, increasing the chamber size and leaving the barrel alone will not increase performance. Increasing the chamber size AND extending the barrel will, however. |

I'm no moderator, but isn't talking about black powder banned on the forum? Plus, I'm not sure using it in PVC is a wise choice when it comes to fuel... Anyway, good luck. I also think to penetrate 3 apples you'll need a larger cannon with a larger barrel. |
