I havn't heard of even any claims that a certain type of potato is better.
However, I'd venture to say there would be a couple criterion to look for:

Starch content: higher starch content means higher density (albeit only a few percent)
Physical condition: stronger potatoes mean less launch fragmentation.
Shape: spherical potates would produce more symetrical slugs, presumable resulting in higher accuracy.

I love Russets because their bigger than regular Idahoe's and they seen more dense also, so they produce stronger slugs that seal the barrel good and they have good center of gravity for me, so they don't tumble in the air...

BLB, do you exist to make stupid people like me feel..err... stupider?

I never really thought about the physical characteristics before, other than taking weight to size (density). Laughing

I use bakeing potatos. From what i have tested(not really lol) they hold up a little bit better and if you get hungry you can eat the. lol. The best thing to do is take a peisce of pipe the same size as your barrel and put a potato in it and then frezze it. And then take the potato out and well la . They stand up really well and do a lot of damage.

Try sticking a glowstick through one for a crazy tracer effect.

The only potatoes I've bought so far are Yukon Gold potatoes. They hold up fine and are only about 3 bucks a bag or so.
