Here is a spark gap thing I made today. I am not sure if we will use it yet. the spark jumps the entire thing with a electric bbq sparker if I use both spark gaps on the lighter.
You do know that arc length is inversely proportional to pressure, right? If you have enough voltage supply to arc across that thing at 8x, and the insulation to match, you've accomplished something great. Could you post the high voltage generator you plan on using for this thing? By the looks of that spark strip, it must be at least a hundred kilovolts.
You can use whatever you like, so long as its spark at atmospheric pressure is greater than the total length of all the gaps on the spark strip multiplied by eight.
A flyback won't have anywhere near enough voltage.
Flybacks are generally a pita if you're new to HV. For your purposes a camera flash/ignition coil setup will work just fine, but you'll want to cut it down to two or three gaps of about 1 mm each.
Yes , i would also recommend the camera flash/ignition coil setup over the flyback for you.
Normally you cant use the original driver from the screen and have to build your own.
