Cannon #1

Tactical Interballistic Tennis Ball System

First Place Winner!

Final Judges Score Chart
-Idea 18.5/20
-Use of materials 4.7/5
-Creativeness 9.6/10
-Quality of build 4.7/5
-Function 9.1/10

This cannon is part of the SpudFiles Innovative Contest. For details see here...
http://www.spudfiles.com/forums/spudfiles-innovative-design-contest-ju dging-t19233.html

--Details and pictures from cannon builder--

* It shoots 6 balls without taking your hands off the grips, 7 if you pre-load the chamber.
* Loading the magazine only takes one hand.
* The balls are spring fed, not gravity fed. They feed upside down, under water and in outer space (simulated).
* It runs on propane or MAPP, but doesn't rely on cumbersome metering systems.
* It's completely self contained. Aside from balls, a fresh tank of MAPP every 1000 or so shots and a 9V battery, it requires no other supplies to operate. That means no air compressors, power cords, solar cells, CO2, rubber bands, or beer to run (simulated).
* The barrel, combustion chamber, bolt, and frame are all made of aluminum, but still cost less than $400 to make. (Don't tell my wife)
* The barrel bore is hard anodize and micro honed.
* It incorporates a 45 style aluminum frame grip and electromechanical trigger.
* It uses grade 8 socket head cap and button head screws all-around.
* It works. It doesn't jam, it doesn't drop balls, and it doesn't mis-fire.

Idea - 19
Tippmann has already created a pump action combustion launcher (Tippmann C3), which is why I can't give this a perfect score. I can, however, give it a high score for the simple reason that I've never seen it done outside of a major company.

Use of Materials - 5
This launcher is a beauty. The color scheme is nice and all of the pieces just flow well together.

Creativeness - 10
I'm giving this a perfect score for the simple reason that I haven't seen this done outside of a major company.

Quality of Build - 5
The launcher appears to be well put together. No stains or sloppy welds are present and the colors flow well together.

Function - 9
Although this launcher functions as intended, there seems to be some delay between firing in the video.

Idea: 20 because to build this at home and it looks nothing like a Tippman takes a lot of carefull thought.

Use of materials: 5 what Hubb said, it looks real nice.

Creativeness: 10 again a home build done carefully.

Quality of build: 5 fine build nuff said.

Function: 10 works like it is supposed to.

Idea: 20
No one has built something like this homemade within our community or that we know of, although designs have been drawn up, this design seems to work far more effectively than the ones I have seen

Use of materials: 5
I'd love to see someone try and use these materials better than the builder has.

Creativeness: 10
Nothing like it, great concept, haven't seen anyone design something similar before.

Quality of build: 5
Again, i'd love to see someone try and build this better. Craftsmanship is amazing.

Function: 10
In the words of jrrdw, works like its supposed to.
Although there is a delay between shots for venting I assume, it still works great without flaw.

-Idea (20 pts max) 16
This works different than Tippman's pump action, but it is also nothing new. It draws in air like a torch head (it looks like it is actually using a torch head, but it is hard to tell with all the stuff mounted on it). This is why he must wait before each shot. However the idea has never been implemented so well, and the rest of the gun is very nice. I particularly like the magazine.

-Use of materials (5 pts max) 3
I think the extruded aluminum rails are a bit much. Seems like it makes the gun a lot bulkier than it needs to be.

-Creativeness (10 pts max) 10
Definitely a creative design

-Quality of build (5 pts max) 5
Well made

-Function (10 pts max) 9
Looks very reliable and well functioning. The only thing I would dock it for is that it appears you just have to know how long to wait to let new fuel in. I would rather see it with a meter or some sort of electronic control

Tits, hmmm...

Idea - 20 - I'm sold having 12 shots in a minute of video. Just an end user approach to the innovation concept, and the implementation is awesome. Encapsulating it all w/out end caps, muzzle loading, exhausting, fueling...

Use of materials - 5 - Yeah I'm usually a knock for extruded aluminum stuff just because I see a lot of noobs squander the stuff on the CNC forums, but not the case.

Creativeness - 8 - Approach and implementation say it all.

Quality of build - 5 - Craftsmanship on all materials.

Function - 9 - I could only ask for a little more concuss.

Got a dog I shoot TB's for too. Property looks nice. One question though: what's up with the airplane (1:20)? Laughed when I thought of a pinata behind it.

Edit: Also forgot to add, nice presentation. Lots of discript photos and the .pdf

YES! TITS! LOVE IT!

Idea: 18
Amazing. Just an amazing design. I love the loading system. ...I still haven't figured out how it vents. What am I missing?

Use of Materials: 5
I love the simple look of everything. The parts were chosen very carefully and professionally. I would have chosen another style of handle that matches the rest of the gun though.

Creativeness: 10
Very creative use of metal stock. You brought this all together so well and made it look so simple and clean.

Quality of the Build: 4
Very nice, but the electronics should be housed in a safer place, like a box.

Function: 10
It looks like there are no jam-ups while loading or firing. It looks fast and easy. It's flawless.

This thing is over a year old.
I've seen it on Youtube and it has been linked to before on this site.
Therefore it must be disqualified....

At least..that's my opinion...

Only an idea however, never a working product.

Obviously it no longer matters if everyone is going to have a crap fit about everything. I could care less about this whole contest at this point. I ended up with a huge mess because most of the people who said they were going to enter, never did. If I knew I was going to have this kind of result I would have never had a contest.

I knew there were some drawings and work done on it that was posted in the past, but my understanding is that it never really got past that. If there were operational videos posted on SpudFiles months ago, then I was never told about it from the builder. If the builder wants to come on here and defend himself then he can.
