| Just wondered if anyone actually uses a chamber to barrel ratio, I calculated mine out, and in order to achieve a 1.5:1 ratio, my barrel would have to be 35 inches long, so it doesnt seem very practical. But would you just gain more power from having a shorter barrel and a bigger chamber then? |

| it would be a lot louder, but yes, it would probably increase the performance a little. |

Boilingleadbath's salt mine analogy would appear to apply to miniature launchers with (relatively) large chambers, and short barrels.
That is, with such a large volume of fuel to burn in order to produce the same chamber pressure as would occur in a properly sized chamber, the projectile will exit the barrel long before the pressure has built to any reasonable level. |

A properly constructed and sealed gun with a proper ratio with always give far better results than if you just build a massive chamber and whack on a crayola twist barrel. It's all about what Spudblaster said about the projectile having enough time to accelerate with the shockwave generated by the detonation (or burning) of the fuel, if your use a barrel that is too short it wont speed up enough, too long and it will start to slow down before it exits the barrel. Build your guns properly and you will enjoy them much much more, you would end up modifying it anyway in which case you will save time and money by doing it right the first time. Remember measure twice and cut once!

P.S. Spud you are not insane- just remote fire it |
