Hey, I have found recently in a pile of junk a thing that looked like a variable resistor, but with the name Clarostat on it with the number 625-7730 on it and with the inscription 3A.125V, 1A.250V.

I think it is a sort of A to V transformer, but I'm not sure. Can anyone help me identifying it? thanks.

Here's a quick paint representation

It just looks like a potentiometer to me.

Do you have an ohmmeter? Try hooking it up to one of the side terminals and the middle one, turning it should change the resistance.

I was Googling "Clarostat", and they seem concerned with the manufacturing of variable resistors.

Yep, looks like a pot, with a switch connected on the back, possibly an SPDT. That's where you would get the voltage rating. Turn it all the way to the left and see if there's a noticable switch detent.
