Hah, beat ya to finding those and making a mental link to spudguns Razz

I saw those over christmas in a field and added it to the list of practical uses of spudguns on wikipedia tongue8

They're basically fully automatic propane combustions. But when I say fully automatic I mean they're meant to fire once every half hour or so and the whole mechanism is just for noise, not loading stuff and firing it.

Well, once at a steel mill's sludge pit some environmental person had one of these installed because someone found an oily bird. It worked great for a while until suddenly a great wall-o-fire erupted. I guess someone forgot that these things use the propane for "combustion" to produce the "boom". I do know that a local winery uses them to scare birds from the vines so they can have a later harvest for their ice wine.

Apparently the minimum rate of fire is once every 2 minutes so it probably doesn't need a venting mechanism, hmmm...

The only interesting bit about them is the auto filling and igniting device.

Odd that that version doesn't say anything about a battery, they tend to run off a lead-acid and a tank of propane.

It is just some electronic injection, and actually a pretty simple model that has been around of ages. (I remember running into these things back before I belonged to Spudtech.) I don't think they are terribly interesting for our purposes, since a lot of people here could rig up a system that works just as good. The bane of automatics is the loading and venting.

i have one of those, but its single shot and it uses a percussion cap to launch it. its called a bird banger, it does the same thing, but one shot at a time.

Bird bangers shoot a projectile that detonates after a few seconds if I'm correct?I had a lot of fun with them in Germany and Holland.

These things have been around for a long time here in Aus aswell,to scare off Kangaroos and birds, and I thought about why some one hadn't tried to use one for shooting purposes.

Hey thats so ironic?
When the cops pulled me over one night and searched my car they happened across my cannon........
"What is this?" quired the officer
"Why this is a home made scare gun sir." I replyed with quick wit
After some explaining that if you placed a polystireen cup into the chamber and let it off it makes quite the loud bang to scare off fruit bats.........
The cop then tured and said....
"We have had some trouble with kids in the area shoving potatos in them and launching them across sports feilds!"
"Oh how silly......why would i want to do something stupid like that?.......Withch sporting feild have they been frequinting?"
It was then i found out i was the kids they where talking about.
LOL
