This is my version of the piston valve, it is not the real thing but is how I made it and it works.

Cool. I like it but wont the pressure go out the vavle and not the barrel. So it will go out the barrel but it will be easier to go out the vavle correct me if im wrong. Hopefully im wrong.

i think the bulk of the air will leave throught the barrel because it has a larger flow hole, but yes, air will also leave the vlavle, its kinda like a sprinkler valve and a blowgun i think

It would work just fine. What do you mean it is 'not the real thing'? There is no set way to make a piston valve. That is the way I made my first one, although it was a bit more compact.

try to reduce the mass of the piston to make it open faster, also if you epoxy a piece of neoprene on the end of the piston toward the exhaust so it covers the equalization hole you've got a 1 way valve so you dont lose excess air

equalization and exaust goes the same way on my, unless i have the schrander valve just before the ball valve, which i didnt, but a good idea, i will try that nex time, thanx

Wouldn't it be easier just to use the ball valve ass the release and just throw out the whole piston Idea.

Because if your looking at the human hand not being able to open the ball valve fast enough, the problem will hinder you whether you use the ball valve as the release mechanism, or you use it as you have above. When you open the ball valve on the figure above there will be lag in releasing the air in the springed chamber, therefore moving the piston at a slower speed.

Therefore i would say it would be just as efficient, less costly, and much simpler to just use the ball valve.

Unless you use a sprinkler valve, however i do not prefer sprinkler valves as they are limited to psi

here is the thing, first, the animation looks slow, because i wanted to show people how it works, the spring is not going to overcome the 400 psi my chambers are rated for, so speed is no problem.
I would say that, from what I read on the posts here that, unless you have a ram like this : http://leckemby.net/spudwerx/spudchucker1.html
a ball valve is the slowest trigger here, the piston would have been fired by the time the ball valve is half open. besides, i can replace the ball valve on my to a sprinkler valve.

yes the piston would make the gun work MUCH better than a shitty ball valve, and what do you mean "i do not prefer sprinkler valves as they are limited to psi" you shouldnt be putting more than 100 psi in your chamber anyway so they should be fine

that pneumatic actuiator is cool. i made hydrallics once with some spare parts laying around. but it only lifted like 35lbs.

as to the question from pimpmann, if you look at the piston, on the right side of the equalization hole, there is a little flap that opens when air goes from the pilopt area to the chamber, but if air tries to come back out of that hole, the flap will be pressed closed.
