Extreme High Velocity Hybrid
This is my latest hybrid, it is made of steel, with 1/4" npt threads and a 1" 3000 psi steel union. It is all welded with 6010 root and 7018 caps.
It will have a dual spark plug ignition which will be powered by a stun gun.
I plan on taking it to 10x mixes in hope of putting a sabotted dart through 1/4" steel plate.
or at least 1/8" steel.
It should be in working condition by christmas.
I will be using air-propane, air-mapp, and possibly oxy-propane or oxy-mapp mixes.
I have one question though.
I mounted my union backwards instead of the usual way that they are mounted.
Will the burst disk slip out of the union when pressurized?
If so, does anyone have a recommended solution.
And if it does I could always just buy a second union and weld it onto the old one.
btw
Those welds may look bad but I assure you that the 6010 root pass came out nice and those welds you see are only caps.
Oh and heres some pics.

Thats a fine looking almost done hybrid you got there. As far as I know it shouldn;t matter that you put the union on back wards, It should still work fine. If not you could always grind the lip flat and glue on some gasket material liek Spudblaster did with his union.
You could also just grind the welds off and flip it round and re-weld it. |

Very solid looking set-up, good luck with the piercing.

Hmm yea, I think thats what I might do that, grind the lip off.
I wish I could just grind the welds off, but I used 6010 and it penetrates really deep.
@ Novacastrian: Thanks, Its going to take some luck, do you have any advice? |

| Looks fun; wish I could get a stun gun and weld stuff. I'd probably use some ridicuous 15-20x mixture though.... |

You could cut the pipe near the union and then weld the union on the other way, and then you could just have a piece of pipe welded to the nut of the union.

Wait? you can weld stuff with a stun gun??? lol just kidding.
Actually I found that for hybrids an ignition coil with a camera flash capacitor discharged into it works much better then a stun gun for ignition of high mixes. It's much more reliable in my experience. |

I just need a bigger spark. My BBQ ignitor limits me to 6x. |

| Well with an ignition coil and capacitor, you'll be getting that spark. |

| Does anyone know if spark plugs can be welded along the metal part above the threads? |

| Not sure, but wouldn't you want it to be servicable in case it failed for whatever reason? And I would think the heat from welding might have the possibilty of damaging it in some way. |

hmm I think I might need to try it on a piece of scrap steel and a old plug.
then test it for spark.
I want to weld it because I don't trust putting my own threads on the existing threads. |

| Sounds like a plan lol. You know you could always try you hand at making you own spark plug out of a threaded plug, wire, and epoxy. |

| Yea, I have done that before. I used it on one of my other hybrids using a 1/8" nipple. |
