I joined this website to eagerly find out how vortex guns work to build this new marvel. But before i reveal to you this device, i must tell you the downsides of standard vortex guns
1) THey require either an air compressor or an air tank to power it, adding weight my design may alleviate
My design some of you may all ready know: Leaf Blowers
While working with the leaf blower i realize the air from the nozzle on the front could be replaced by a barrel and vortex cap mechanism. THe lightweight of leaf blowers would have a greater rof, and probably velocity.
As seen here (http://www.spudfiles.com/forums/viewtopic,p,181514.html#181514) the vortex cap mechanism designed by davidvainy would be ideal for this. THe nozzle on the front of the leaf blower would be replaced by a funnel, and sealed extremely tight. The end of the funnel would power the vortex. the barrel would be for airsoft (6mm or 8mm) and be tightbore. Their would be two layers of pvc barrel (.25in and .5in) to secure the barrel inside the pipe, epoxy inside the .25in pipe would secure it. |

| ekhm... leaf blowers offer very low pressure... i hope you are aware of it? |

| Pardon me, I am sure you are a well educated and experienced person, but how are you sure of this? |

Even if you could get the velocity to 3 times that of a quality leaf blower's normal output, you are only looking at ~300mph. Not terribly fast. |

could a lawnmower blade be replaced with an airfoil from the leaf blower, and make a vehicle mounted weapon?
What is the hp of a leaf blower? |

| The problem with leaf blowers not building pressure is the fan is wide open for the pressure to escape from. You need something that builds pressure. |

Actually you could to it with no building of pressure, by sucking the BBs into a high speed air stream. (Like one achieved by a venturi)
The trick is getting that stream moving very fast. |

A good Stil made back pack blower brags of 400 mph air stream out of a aprox. 4" blower hose.
How would you do it Bc.? |

There are a couple of venturi feed designs around here, you would be able to find some with relative ease. (Tinkerlabs?)
I still think a compressor would be a better choice for the same price as a nice leaf blower, unless you have one laying around. |

with a vortex cap since it is so small that large of a volume concentrated into a vortex cap would create back pressure and might actually work... A leaf blower doesnt create much pressure but has a large amount of CFM... So if you can concentrate all that wind into a 6mm air inlet you could probably get some decent pressure. It is the same concept when you pinch the end of a hose with water... when you pinch the end of a hose you get a huge jet of pressure... if you did this with the leaf blower you might actually get some decent pressure... idk It might work... if it doesnt create enough back pressure then it probably wont work...
but if you can get it to create that back pressure it could vary well work...
the other option would be run a co2 bottle with a regulator setup... doesnt weight any more than a leaf blower and would create 120psi easy.

or with the leaf blower idea....you could just refine the flow of the air to a smaller output, increasing the speed, and just making yourself a monster cloud bbmg |

that is what I meant by creating back pressure by re-directing the air into a small 6mm air inlet... |

| A leaf blower can only build so much pressure before running into the limit of it's design. If it were more practical to get air pressure from a leaf blower, there wouldn't be a multi million dollar industry built around compressors. |

lol, good point....
and you would see a lot more "leaf blower hacks" on youtube lol |

yeah im not so sure how much back pressure could be formed by a leaf blower but its worth a shot... as for the statement from BC... a lot of manufactors actually create both leaf blowers and compressors... Just cause a leaf blower is made for leaf blowing doesnt mean it cant be used for other things...
I say keep an open mind and try it... besides plenty of things can be used for multiple uses..
Examples:
Pencil normally used for writing but can be used as a shank.
PVC used for plumbing but can be used for spudguns
Internet originally designed to distribute information between colleges. Now is used for a lot of things such as porn.
SUV originally built as a sport utility vehicle... now its main purpose is for soccer moms and street driving. As i heard the other day they should be called Super Urban Vehicles...
Mattress - sleeping device that is also used effectively to slide down stairs
so as you can see just cause it is built for something else it doest mean it cant be effectively used or sometimes even better used for other things.
so keep an open mind and try it out ! |
