I recently constructed a pnuematic paintball gun, and it fires extremely well, but lately I have been having issues with paintballs disintegrating before exiting the barrel, resulting in a cloud of yellow paint. Has anyone else had this problem?

Look down the barrel with a light and see where the paint starts at. Maby a bur/need wadding/are your paint balls good quality? Do they fit the barrel snugly? Maby they are bouncing around in the barrel and breaking?
Just some thoughts on it.

Welcome to my world, I had the same prob and I narrowed it down to the breech loader, Turns out some pvc particles got stuck in there when it was painted and the paintball was slightly to big for the hole,it stays inside the breech but its resting against the walls so when it fires theres a huge amount of friction. I got my dremel out smoothed everything out and when I put the PB in the breech I push it foward a tiny bit and I havnt had the problem since.

sounds like your getting some chops. make sure your paint is decent. is your gun fast? maby get a force feed hopper or turn down you firing speed if its electro.

I think he is talking about a single shot... If he designed his own semi automatic paintball gun then he would prob be able to fix that problem

A semi automatic paintball gun would not be hard to build, but yes this is a single shot gun.

The problem has been fixed, the paintballs no longer disintegrate upon firing.

I have never had my paintball cannon break a ball, and it shoots over 800fps. Might wanna make sure theres no obstruction in your barrel

A defective paintball exploded inside the barrel, leaving plastic shards and paint on the inside. Every paintball that followed caught on a plastic shard, causing it to burst, thus escalating the problem. I washed the barrel out with water, and there have been no problems since..

SpudBlaster15 what size pipe did you use for a barrel? I've been designing but undecided on a barrel size. Your or anyones imput would help.

you can use 3/4" PVC or CPVC but 1/2" SDR is the best.

garrettee, use 3/4" CPVC or 1/2" SDR 13.5 PVC. Both are decent fits.

What kind of paint are you using? They could be crappy or stale and the air pressure just disintegrates them.
