For some reason the site got "smaller" its kind of hard to explain but the website has gotten smaller and no longer takes up the whole of my screen. It makes it very dificult to read the writing. any suggestions?

My guess is that you need to resize it and you might have accidentally done that. Are you running a laptop? Because on my laptop if you make a "pinching" motion on the touch pad, it shrinks or or makes it larger.

Soo many things wrong with IE I switched to mozilla, realized how horrible it was because it crashed my computer all the time, then switched to chrome and never looked back. @ stolly it could also be your browser, you might want to try chrome Very Happy

@Mr. Sandman, this is pretty much the only problem i have EVER had with IE, its always worked great for me, and the whole zoom thing wasnt even IE for me, it was me accidentally pressing something on my laptops keyboard and it zooming out, and i use IE and Firefox, both are wonderful, never tried chrome tho, is that the new google browser? ive also tried safari, and liked that too(yes, i have safari on my PC, u got a problem? Very Happy )

EDIT: i never realized chrome was free Very Happy . Just downloaded it, so far im lovin it! (sorry, off topic)

IE is the SLOWEST web browser out of all of them. chrome is the fastest. FF and safari are about the same

FF is the best IMO. Not that much speed difference between FF and chrome, though IE is noticeably a POS.

Anyone know how to disable the touchpad zooming on laptops? I always do it by accident. I tried doing it once, and couldn't get it right.

You can also use ctrl+mousewheel to zoom in Firefox. Handy for switching back and forth (images get pixellated when zoomed)

I like firefox because of the extensions and scripts, but chrome is pleasant to use for the less technologically adept.

Well this may differ from person to person but tests show that chrome is the fastest. (done by google and cnet). That is until feb next year...

That being said that would only be on some websites and if you have fast internet. I use firefox for its add ons and that they make songbird (my media player :p)

FF, Chrome and all other browsers are nothing but dumbed down versions of IE. Get into your help files, and watch all the tutoriales you can find. You can even go to the MS forums and talk to those guru's about it. If your IE is running slow or hanging it's not because it's junk, it's because of the settings or your misconfigured or you have spy-ware.

You may just need to update your Adobe reader THEN your Flash Player. Out dated Java software can also play a part in slow running browser.

People are to quick to blame MS for computer issues when if fact it's mostly operator error, (error being lack of knowledge about the product). Rolling Eyes

I've been studying MS for the past two years, I plan on being a MCP before the year is over. Very Happy

If what you say is true that users miss configure IE, than it came mis-configured out of the box when it was tested. How can users miss configure a fresh install of Windows for a comparison study?

It is true that IE is the #1 target for malware installation as most poor users are led to believe it is OK to browse the internet with administration privileges.

I'm from a newer school that has an administration account for OS and browser updates, software installation, and general admin tasks. For all other tasks, a locked down user account without the privileges to install anything goes a long way in the war on malware.

A video or picture should NEVER prompt me to run this exe file.

If the video runs fine later after getting official drivers ( never from the site with the photo of from a link from there ) then fine, but most of the time the video or photo is trying to install something. Most of the time you don't want it installed.

Edit; Just giving my experience as I type this on my netbook, I have it set to dual boot. I can either boot into Windows XP and the IE that came installed with it (factory mis-configured for slow) or boot into Ubuntu with Firefox. I tried both for a very short while, and then went exclusively to Ubuntu and Firefox on the netbook. From power on to making posts on a wireless connection is no where in the same ballpark for speed. I heard that Windows Seven and the new version of IE is faster, but I have not bothered to upgrade. Somehow, I can't see the advantage of running Windows 7 on a netbook with a 160 Gig hard drive and 2 Gig of RAM. With the hard drive partitioned, for dual boot, I don't need a larger OS install. If you like I can do a stopwatch test of loading Ubuntu and bringing up a homepage on firefox and the same for comparison on Windows XP and IE. This would be on the same hardware.

Windows XP and IE have minimal configuration changes as now the only real reason I use XP is to run a lighting console program to run stage lights while aiming them. The netbook is much smaller to take up on the lift.

These things happen during use, installing software not in the MS logo program etc...

Also when OS systems are installed on pre-configured computers you buy off the shelf they are loaded with trail offers that most have browser extensions that slow things down. That could be considered misconfigured out of the box. Razz
