I'll play it if it's ever out for pc. I don't think I'll buy an xbox unless they're going for like $50.
I have a ps2 and a GC, but the gc doesn't work, and the only games I have for ps2 are Jak2, Jak3, The Sims and Rez. |

Halo 3... psh.
I had never played any Halo game, neither Halo 1 or Halo 2, but the hype was crazy, so I decided to pick up a copy. I played on normal campaign for my first time through, and beat it in about 5-6 hours (two days worth... yeah, lots of playing those two days ). I thought it was an OK campaign. Then I switched into multiplayer, which was supposed to be the main attraction. To tell you the truth, I was SEVERELY disappointed. It was nothing new; just slightly better graphics and many people playing.
Compared to my favorite game, Gears of War...
Graphics: Gears of War
Campaign: Equivalent (I like GoW, but thats just my opinion)
Choice of Weapons: Halo 3
Realistic: Gears of War (sure, they both have aliens and stuff, but GoW actually captures the dark mood which occurs in war; Halo 3 is a little too happy)
Multiplayer: Gears of War (Headshot effect is amazing, you actually take cover instead of jumping around like an idiot, you need to work as a team, etc).
Glitches: Equivalent (while GoW will experience more glitches from more people, I have seen several in Halo 3, and I even heard that people were able to mod their Xboxs back in the day during Halo 2 to do some crazy stuff).
So yeah... if any of you have Gears of War, hit me up on Xbox Live at rmich732[/list] |

On another forum someone asked me why Halo 3 is the best of 1&2 combined. I replied with this:
Well, first of all the Assualt Rifle.
I think it was possibly the best part of Halo 1. Then they took it away in Halo 2, dumbed down the pistol to make room for the battle rifle, and added in the SMG which was rather disappointing to have as a default weapon most of the time.
In Halo 2, specifically online play, half the game was about finding a weapon to replace your next-to-useless SMG. Sometimes you would start to see entire multiplayer games focused around each player's efforts to get a different weapon. In Team Slayer people would actually guard the spawn points for better weapons so they would have the upper hand. This took away from the whole multiplayer experience.
So they brought the Assualt Rifle back in Halo 3 and what this did was basically leveled the playing field. You could now start off with a weapon worth shooting. The characteristics of the AR combined with the design of most maps make for plenty nerve racking CQB situations and that's a turn-on for most people into shooters.
The addition of some other weapons (Spartan Laser, Gravity Hammer, Fuel Rod in multiplayer) were also good. The are powerful, but not the best in all situations and are hard to use) They took away the rocket launcher's heat seaking ability and made the pistol more effective but also shoot slower. These meant more skill would be involved in using the weapons that would typically dominate a game in Halo 2. They improved the Needler, and now it's just awesome. Best in CQB by far, but limited by it's capacity so your aim must be almost perfect to get kills.
Basically the rethinking of the weapons changed the game around.
The other addition that I like is the equipment. Besides grenades (which there are also more of) you can have things like trip mines, power drains, rechargers, bubble shields, grav lifts, deployable cover, and flares (basically flash/bangs) These added a whole new dimension to the game and made strategy play an important role in winning rather than basically outshooting your opponent.
Now there are 3 heavy weapons: missile pod (fires 8 small heat seeking missiles) flamethrower (self explanatory) and turret (unlimited ammo attached to base, 200 round detached, but now you can WALK around with the most brutal gun in the game)
And of course, Forge. Forge is like multiplayer with a twist. The player can switch from being themselves to a monitor (floating ball dude) they can actually spawn weapons, vehicles and scenery. The catch is, each game has a budget and each thing you want to spawn costs money.
Vehicles: The banshee now has the bomb feature like it did in H2 campaign. There's now a human answer to the banshee called the hornet. This thing is sick. Machine gun + heat seeking missiles. The mongoose is the fastest vehicle in the game now. Basically it's an ATV that can carry anther person on the back. The driver can't shoot but the guy on the back can use his own gun. Also in the map called Sandtrap there is this huge crawler thing that can carry an entire team around and it's decked out in turrets. But it goes real slow. The scorpion has the main gun but not the turret unless you are a passenger. This got rid of anyone being able to dominate the other team single handedly.
Maps: Most maps are assymetrical so now the games take on a more offense vs. defense style where the team in the fortified position is inclined to hold it and prevent the other team from taking over. A good example of this would be high ground. Rather than teleporters, some maps have man-cannons and grav lifts. These get you to others places but leave you exposed and almost defenseless along the way. This means that you can pull of a good tactic but only if you know what you're doing. Again: strategy.
Halo 3 is all about out-thinking your enemy rather than perforating him with lead like in Halo 2. All the new features encourage cooperation and planning.
In a nutshell, the game rocks. Go play it. |

| Guys, I hate to be the spoil sport here. Yes, Halo is a great game, but this kind of discussion does not belong here. Take it to Theopia. Topic locked. |
