Hey guys I have just finished my hybrid, but I can't get the darn thing to fire! Yes I have read Hybrid Fueling 101, but I have no idea what it means, can you guys simplify it for me? or even better can you guys direct me how to fuel? all the parts on the meter are 1/4 npt fittings, the chamber is 3/4. Please and Thanks

Hybrid fueling 101 is as simple as it can be made. Propane should be 4.02% of the total gases in the chamber. If you can't understand that, you shouldn't be using a hybrid anyway.

Also, are you sure that your ignition works properly and that the liquid volume measurements you did on the chamber and meter are accurate? You're not actually trying to use a piezo-electronic igniter for ignition on this thing, are you?

It would probably be best if you expained what you did in each step so that others may analyze what may be causing you grief.

Add a random shot of propane and pressurize it while clicking the ignitor the whole time Very Happy
At some point there will be enough oxygen and it will fire Razz

No serious:
If you did the right calculations for volume and the 4.02% you cant be wrong.
Are you sure its not the ignition wich fails?

Maybe get a stungun from BCARMS.

You're most likely to be under-fueling it. Try adding 30% more propane when you try the next shot. If it doesn't work then, it may be your spark gap.

i'd do what _Fnord said, but i'd also upgrade your ignition to something like a stungun purchased from bcarms... reliable sparking, i wouldn't trust a piezo to a hybrid even though i know people have done it before

Hmm another thought of your problem:
If everyting seems to work fine, but it doesnt work:
Did you flush the meter with fuel?

There may be air inside the meter, wich makes you inject too less fuel.

In your other thread, you said you plan on using this thing up to 15X, but will that peizo operate at those pressures? I thought i read somewhere that the max was 8x, so does anyone know what the official max for a bbq sparker?

Depends on the size of the gap and the power of your piezo.
If it can jump a 1x gap at 1/2 inch, then you will need a 1/16th inch gap for 8x.
If you would use a smallish 1/32 inch gap, 9x would be possible.

Do you have a small photoflash tube or tiny neon bulb laying around? The neon bulb is called an Ne-2 and are what they use as the indicator light in bus strips and many other 120VAC appliances. An Ne-2 is basically a spark gap that will light up with any voltage over ~70V. (Both an Ne-2 and a small flashtube can usually be salvaged from the photoflash circuit of a disposable camera.)

Wire the flash tube or neon bulb in series with your spark gap(s). If the bulb flashes when you hit the sparker then you have continuity through the system. If there are no shorts in the system, then a flashing bulb means you got a spark. No flash in the bulb means no spark, either there is a short somewhere or the spark gap is too large.
