I have made alot of darts in my pneumatics life, but the most affective i have found is to screw a heavy screw into the cap of a caulk or silicon stick (The plastic cone on the end of a silicon stick) This results in a very aerodynamic dart.
make sure the screw you use has a heavy head on it. You can also use nails instead of screws, but you would need big heavy nails to suffice. If the cap is too big, heat the rim on it, and slide it into the end of your barrel, to size it correctly. I have launched these well over 50m. The caps are normally free to take, so I take about 60 every time I visit my local $2 shop

| you should put a cap on the head of the screw, like the cones that you put on rockets. Then it will be more aero dynamic and the center of gravity is still towards the head of the dart

| And the screw end is good for making large holes, so covering it won't help impact

| If you trying to make large holes you might as well use batteries, darts are meant to stick into objects like targets. Adding a cap would not affect the placement of the fins because it would be the same diameter as the screw head. Plus, there are no fins, he used a cone to stablize it.

batteries just suck full stop. they spin everywhere and are inacurate.
nice idea on the darts i might mod this design to suit a 16mm bore.

| I just tried using heavy nails, instead of the screw, and it drove straight into a car door, and smashed the wound down window inside

| What diameter was the nail and what were you using to stablize the nail in the barrel?
