My problem is ... when i try watching video's from Putfile.com it takes way to long to connect and download, even for a small clip, say 3 megabits. So i tryed to go to the download link, then clicked the next link 20 times, (it said to), then downloaded to my desk top, it finished, i tryed to watch it and got this error message -- "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. One or more codecs required to play the file could not be found."
I know some will say use the Foxfire browser, i can't because of ebay toolbar isn't compatible with that browser, and i need the toolbar.
I don't have any problems with Photobucket, Googlee, Youtube, other then having to use dialup.
Questions -- What are "codecs"? and what do they do? Does anybody know of any adjustments that can be made to my browser that would help? |

Ok for the record I am not a computer tech/nerd.
But if I am right the codes that it is talking about would allow it (the computer)to decode the video allowing it to play it. If i am wrong (which I probably) am please tell me so and correct me.
Oh and Jrrdw I dont give up on things. Drives my parents crazy. |

| Codecs are little packets of information that, you were somewhat correct recruit, allow the Media Player to play the file. It's a very small packet of information or program that encodes and decodes the file. Some websites simply do not download the codecs to your computer properly, and sometimes they just get corrupted. Honestly, there's not a whole lot you can do. |

That eBay toolbar, is it just an eBay search bar? If so, Frefox has that. If it's something else, Firefox has other add-ons for eBay: https://addons.mozilla.org/search.php?q=ebay&type=E&app=firefox
If you still can't find it there, you can always get firefox and use it just for movies. It's not like Firefox will take over your computer and you can only use that. Just install it and choose for it to not become the default browser. Use it for movies and everything else with IE. |

This has nothing to do with SpudFiles but I will still try to give some help.
On a server there are connection timeouts, if you have dialup you may hit that timeout often therefor having issues watching videos.
As far as the codec thing, I have no idea what putfile videos are encoded in (I'll check later) but you may be somehow missing that codec. HOW is beyond me, since sites like that should be picking a codec that is very very popular. |

Sgort87 -- It never crossed my mind that i could have two browsers and use one or the other, and yea the ebay thing is a tool bar.
