I was wondering what I could use for a combustion chamber but I don't want to use pvc, I want a metal chamber and I want it to be as big as possable. Cheap too.'

Any ideas where I might find something suitable? Confused

Thats kinda a tall order, how about a used 55 gallon drum. Or even a 35 gallon drum.

I dunno, Pimp said the 55gallon drum might not be able to withstand the pressure but that is around the size I want. Schmanman said I might be able to use a galvanized steel water tank. Maybe an old boiler.

I really don't know what to make the chamber out of.

what you can do, is go to a flea market. they have alot of junk there, you should be able to find an old scuba tank, without a valve/regulator. that should work just fine. it might be smaller than you want tho. another way isto go to a junkyard and search for an old commercial O2 or N2 tank. they are quite large and hold a lot of pressure.

---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------

5x2 tank...............6.00

5x1 1/2 barrel.......5.65

2" pvc ball valve....7.99

1 schrader valve....4.99

misc fittings...........8.57

hours of anything you can cram in the barrel fun.........Priceless

I want to see if I can go bigger than a scuba tank, it really isn't so big.
I did check out the pumkin chunkin web page but you are not allowed to use combustion cannons in that contest.

I know how about one of those really big compressed air tanks that are like 7-8 ft tall and 1 1/2-2 1/2 ft wide.

An empty helium tank, maybe. those get big. Or an air compressor that is broken, with the tank intact.

I didn't relize we where in the combustion section. Your gonna need something really strong for that much fuel going off! No wonder Pimpmann said the 55 gallon drum probly won't be strong enough. Man that a real tall order to fill. Your gonna need something 1" thick or better. What kind of fuel you planning on useing? Thats probly the reason the Pumkin Chucken contest won't let people use combustion cannons, to dangerous!

use a Stainless steel chamber this would make it alot safer than PVC burst temperature is 3000PSI on standard S/S. and thats with the walls being 2mm and the safe working pressure is over 800 psi, it also goes by the diameter of the pipe it works if the pipe is smaller the better, the smaller the pipe gets the higher the pressure rating goes and aslo the safe working pressure. i dont think you would burst 2mm unless u turned it into a pipe bomb. lmfao

I only plan on using propane in this cannon but if it can take a lot of pressure than why not use more powerfull mixes. An oil drum might actually work, a good freind told me there was a combustion cannon on this site that had an oil drum as a chamber, 300 spudbux to the first member to link me too it.

I will have to look around scrapyard for suitable chambers.

Thanks.
