Some of the eBay sellers are in Australia, so no customs involved there. If you get it from the US, the chrony can measure as low as 30 feer per second, so you can say you're trying to improve your cricket pitch Wink

True, that.
I was afraid of going to the local gun shop and being charged like 400$.
Cheers.

It's basically 2 light sensors and some basic electronic wizardry behind a digital display, nothing to it.

That "hammer piston" reminds me of the my "complex piston" that I built for my first tee valve. http://www.spudfiles.com/forums/golf-ball-valve-t262.html

I actually measured a decrease in performance with mine over a normal piston, although other factors besides opening time may have influenced it.

Spudblaster, I'm assuming that you refer to an oxy-fuel hybrid. Judging by the cost, it's a single stage design, and is relatively large bore with a large chamber, probably made out of leftover steel pipe of some sort. Am I close?

And lets not make this into a competition. It'd only waste our hard earned money. Also, you'd lose

Though it would be a hybrid, it would use no oxygen, and the bore would be relatively small, probably 2.067". The chamber would be around 200 cubic inches, and the barrel somewhere around 20'.

However, I doubt I will construct it, as targets worth subjecting to 15,000ft/lbs of kinetic energy are extremely scarce. A more likely project would be a hand held burst disk gun or similar.

However, if I did build it and turn this into a competition, I would likely win, because your backyard limits the maximum length of the cannon, so even if you had a higher energy to size ratio, I could simply make my launcher 100' long, and still have plenty of space to fire it in my yard.

This animation is pretty much spot on for my own design, except the hammer is flat at the front, it has 7.8mm of travel before it should activate. I finished making it today Very Happy
The front part (sealing face) weighs 6grms, the hammer weighs 9grms.
It is pretty sexy too. I am just waiting for the Polyurethane to set so i should be able to try it out this time tomorrow. I'll try a put a pic up this afternoon.

when the new chambers are on it, and the 35 foot barrel is on it, the swat will look kinda like this, but better.

click the pic, it still looks horible, but a bit better than the small version

it will have..

-built in ammo bins
-a stained wood base+ barrel support.
a 35 foot long aluninum and steel barrel (polished, hopefully, and not bent like the one in the pic!)
breech loader
-not sure what color. (feedback?)

-nicer wheel unit

-the air horns should be solonoid triggered, too.
-75 foot cord for the trigger box

-over twice the power of swat v.3.0, maby more!

swat v1.0

Here are some pics of my recently finished Hammer Piston. First shows the piston fully extended plus end-cap, second shows piston reset with endcap.

I am not sure if i will be able to test this tomorrow as i am obliged to perform, by the laws of this great country, the act of deciding if a fellow citizen is guilty of a crime.

Very Happy Lathe Very Happy I am sure your budget could afford you the luxury of a small lathe JSR. You just won't be able to buy the Monsoon FXR Razz

Edit: Or the Monsoon GT FXRR.

I've been thinking about buying one actually, my gun cabinet is already bursting at the seams so I can probably do without my yearly purchase for 2008 and the funs could be diverted into something a bit more useful Smile

Nicely done. Looking forward to the test too.

What kind of plastic is that? Black nylon?
