Well I was thinking last night of Pnematic guns and compactability, would a design in which the air tank was a sheath around the barrel be possible? say if a coil was wrapped around saving space and keeping power. kinda like this:
And if not this, maybe an all metal with the tank actually welded to the barrel with a tube connecting externally to the barrel. |

I dont think this can be a powerfull gun. The chamber is way to small fot the barrel, and way to long and thin. Not a good airflow I guess.
Why not make a Coaxal gun instead ?
BTW, I like the drawing. |

Thats a long way for the air to go to just get to the valve...
Not a very efficient design methinks. It'll work of course but there are better chamber designs. |

I like my design but the more I think about it the more I think that the pressure won't release quick enough, kind of like a balloon slowly deflating instead of poping.
I'm kinda new to Pneumatics so I'm not really sure what a coaxal gun is...
I'm just trying to think of the most compact design I can possibly create without major loss of power.
while I'm at it, what exactly does the sprinkler do on pneumatics? |

The sprinkler valve is a valve that opens very quickly. It gets triggered by a blowgun, a ball valve or some by electricity.
They are easy to mount and use, although you should mod them. I prefere a piston valve. Not so easy to make, but cheap, en best performance.
A coax pneumatic gun, is a gun with wich the cmaber is constructed arount the barrel. The barrel goes trough the chamber. Look at spudwiki for more details. I learned a lot from that there.
This is a coaxal gun :

Thanks, yeah shortly after posting I read the wiki and now I feel dumb, prolly shoulda read that first...
So basically a coaxal is what I was going for there, hmm... I'll do some research. |

May I recommand a over/under as a first gun. I myself made one out of galve steal. The design however wasn't that good, so I made a bether one. You can find it in the pneumatic showoff section, titled MB2. I have made a dual chamber there. Looks pretty nice. It fires like hell at 130 psi, and I am looking for a pump to get it up to 250 psi.
Right now it shoots 25 mm marbles trough a 30 mm wooden plate at a distance of 40 yards. |

| Yeah further thought makes me think, I should think simple for my first pneumatic, I did the same thing with my first combustion, I wanted to go all out, until I started building it then realizing, I'd never done this before, so I simplified and it turned out great (for a first at least) |

hey man the gun looks good but it wouldn't work well.
Heres a site that has some plans for potato guns of the pneumatic variety.
