Believe me. I've searched this ahead of time. Now, I haven't actually put my gun together yet, but I've been playing with the valve right? When I blow in the direction of the flow, air just seeps through the other end. Is this okay? Will it not be so bad under higher pressures?

no leaking is not ok lol pressureise it and spray some soap water on it and where you see bubbles put some epoxy there to fix any leaks.

I took my orbit master valve back because of that problem and I got a rain bird that leaks to, What I am hearing from people is that the best way to fix it is to mod it. I personally dont want to mod it because I wanted to to be electric but my valve leaks and it is harder that hell to fill with CO2.

Guys, that is totally normal.

A sprinkler valve works by having a controled leak through the diaphram inside. When you hook it up to a compressor, the air fills the chamber of the cannon then gets to the valve. It leaks a bit, then above the diaphram fills with enough air and it forces the diaphram closed.

This is why some people have problems when filling a pneumatic cannon with a bike pump. It can't make pressure too fast, so the pressure just leaks though and the pressure never builds enough to close the valve.

I thought I had this page here on SpudFiles but I can't find it, so here is the page on SpudTech about it.

O rly? That would explain it for me. I finished the cannon (pics coming later when it's painted), and now my bike valve just sort of hisses air through it slowly. (BTW, go to a local tire place, and ask them for tire fill valves. I got like 20 of them for free.) So if I put a 1" Ball valve between the chamber and the valve, then filled the tank a bit, then pulled the valve and fine tuned my filling, it should seal it?

It should probably work, but you can probably pump it to enough pressure to close it, even with a bike pump.

Well, mine's not closing. And that pisses me off. Anyone know which valves (1") will work fine with a bike pump?

- Ball-
- Sprinkler
-Watermaster
-Orbit
-Rainbird
-Almost any other one.

Look in the valve. There should be a white filter thigie on the diaphram. Rip it out. This allows the valve to eqilize faster. Also, check that there is NO dust, dirt, shavings, or other junk on the sealing face. Then add a little grease to the rubber to help it seal. If that dosn't work take it back to the store and say it don't work.

I've taken out the white thing and greased it plenty. If I return this valve and get another of the same one, it should work out okay right? But before I do that, which white filter thing do you mean? The one that's screwed into the middle, or the one that's sort of poking through on the side. Does it matter if I took out the one in the middle? Because that's the one I removed. [Edit:] Okay, now both white things are gone. It leaks slower, but it still won't seal. I guess I'll return it and hope the next one works out =/

You could put a ball valve before the sprinkler valve and open it once you get to about 30 psi, but that would get annoyiong.

So using a CO2 Bike pump wont create pressure fast enough, thats what I foundout. And I can pump my tank fast enough with a bike pump but it leaks no matter what the pressure. I fill it to 70 PSI with my bike pump and in about 30 seconds its at 40 or less. It is really annoying.
