Seriously. They only matter to a few people anyway. The join date should be more important. If post counts don't matter, then you won't care. Also, then this place could lighten up with their nazi-like double posting policy.

Thats just going to make everyone build up there post count again.

And no, I like how this forum doesn't allow double-posts and why do you say nazi? Im pretty sure the nazi's didn't have a problem when someone somehow double posted on their forum 62-75years ago when computers for the public and internet did not exist.

Okay, if this place isn't nazi-ish, find me another forum that calls 'posting seperate responses to seperate people' 'double posting.

To me, when you post the same message TWICE IN A ROW, that is double posting.

Responding to people seperately, is done for something called 'clarity' and is acceptable in the rest of the internet world, apart from this forum.

But McCrowley, I'm not saying reset everybody's post counts, I'm saying GET RID OF THEM ENTIRELY. As in, nobody has post counts. They don't matter.

i find the double posting rule pretty fair. to me double posting is two posts in a row by the same person on the same thread. if you want to reply to multiple people then do it like so:

Cash68- insert message here

MrCrowley- insert second message here.

there its that simple.

Cash it shouldn't matter what other forums do.

If you're in this forum you should use the rules that are given.
Do you want to know why you didn't know it's because you didn't take the time to read.

Clarity is having a concise response in a single post. I find it much easier to understand one all-encompassing post that addresses all questions and matters much more than three which address three different people or questions. Its just easier to read.

This is not proper forum etiquette in any forum that I've been to. You posted 5 posts in a row in 6 minutes that basically said the same thing: you think the 50 posts rule is stupid and you think your gun is good enough to be in the competition.

I've never seen anyone fight a basic rule so much, and I can't believe you are still fighting it.

Anyway, I like the idea of a reputation system, maybe it will help people put more effort into their posts.

I think a reputation system could replace post counts, thus allowing people to post 501,000 things in the offtopic section if they felt like it.

I think theopia would get a lot more traffic if you used your same password and username as you do here, so you dont have to register again.

But that defeats the purpose of a clean, respectable and professional forum. Who wants 501,000 pieces of spam in the off-topic section for a spudgun website? The whole point of this new change is to tidy up spudfiles, make it look clean, respectable and professional while having a place for members to discharge there built up thoughts or what ever the hell they want, and as a bonus it helps theopia get more traffic.
Also you will have hardly any mod's telling you that your post is to off-topic as the whole site will be general discussion.

I think post counts should stay, generally if you post 2000 times on a forum you have some knowledge behind what is being discussed, if you have 1 post it doesn't mean you have no idea what is going on it just means your starting out, not necessarily a so called 'n00b'.

I think that some people are not really sure what it takes to be a respected member.

You do not have to have thousands of posts to be respected. For example, when you think of a combustion master, who do you think of? Many of you probably think of Burnt Latke, who owns possibly the most informative combustion spudgun website. You know how many posts he had on Spudtech? Under 250 posts.

Now, I will admit that he was an exception. Most of the great spudders had well over one thousand posts. Such spudders include DR, Mr. Plow, Clide, Jackssmirkingrevenge, sgort87, etc. There are many more great spudders. However, when these people made posts, they always had something important to say. I have never seen one of these members write a one sentence post basically saying "nice spudgun". They say their opinion, offer criticism, provide answers to questions, address serious issues, etc. They have many posts not because they wanted to increase their post count, but because they wanted to contribute to the forum.

On this forum, there are people who have high post counts who I don't respect at all. I won't name any names, just to avoid controversy. One of the main problems is that some people view post count as the only way to judge the talent or respect of a member. Yes, post count can be an effective tool in judging the respect of a member, but it really should not be.

In a nutshell, if you have something significant to say, say it. If not, don't say it. People WILL NOT respect you if you write "nice cannon" in every single thread in existence on Spudfiles. If you post good information in a well thought out post, that is a COMPLETELY different story.

EDIT: Just wanted to thank everyone for taking this thread seriously... I really feel some good will come out of this. Thanks again.

the thought of a posting limt really scares me, when you see a post whore just tell everyone his reputaion will drop and he'll have to change, like spudthug he use to be a post whore now he's not, same with double posting

now like i said the off topic section should be no longer be "completly off topic discusion" and changed to "partially off topic disscuions" for stuff that most likely will apply more to a spudgunner

Exactly. I think the quality of posts is more important than quantity, hence my suggestion to do away with post counts altogether.

Edit By MrC, you said quality twice which didn't make sence.

But are they causing any harm? They can also help to identify 'post whores'. Im not saying this because I happen to have the most posts, its just interesting to know how many you have. Maybe if this got serious enough we could just chuck them in our Profile instead of them being displayed in every post you make.

If you get rid of them all together it doesn't mean you wont have any post whores, it will just mean you don't know how many times that person has posted in a certain amount of time.

I remember when I got in a arguement with SB15, then someone new on the forum pointed out I must be right because I have more posts then him. Turns out I wasn't right and SB15 was, but the point is I had about 1500 posts on Spudfiles at the time and only about 60 on spudtech. Im still the same person with the same amount of knowledge just a different post count.

I haves an important question! I already registered for Theopia, I'm pretty sure I used the same name and password. PCGUY, when you copy all the spudfiles members over, will that affect anything?

EDIT: In response to the post count thing, perhaps the post count could be displayed in your profile, but also have an effect on your reputation? I mean something like a high number of posts making it a bit harder for people to tarnish you reputation maybe. I don't know, formless idea that I thought I'd throw out there.

It won't hurt anything.
