I use old electronics for target practice. I shot a old toster oven to pieces with my BB gun, which really was too weak to really kill the oven. My crowbar didn't do too well either.
I finished up with the .22 and in the end, it had about 200 BB dings, a couple deep scratches from the crowbar, and 150 holes from the .22.

It was pretty cool, so the next time I brought out my old PC to kill. The BBs and pellets bounced off the case, my spuddy didn't do anything at all besides a coupel dings, it was all very dissappointing. So I took it out to my makeshift range and dissassembled it with my shotgun. It looked like I sent it thru a grinder when i was done.

I didn't get much luck with the spud gun or any air guns with the CRTs, they didn't do anything at all. My spud gun shoots AA batteries, They bounced off harmlessly off the CRT screen, the BBs and pellets got no penetration and only left smudges on the case and tiny nicks on the screen. My .22lr didn't do much either. I put a hole on the side of the case, but it didn't break the tube. I usually remove everything of value in the CRT before using it for plinking.
Finally I destroyed it with the SKS. I hada 2" entry, but no exit.
The other 2 CRTs were similar, airguns and spud gun did not damage at all, the .22 can only put holes on the side of the case.
The 2nd CRT the screen exploded (imploded) so it was pretty cool, but no exit. The crumpled bullet was found lodged deep in the electron gun.
The 3rd I got several entry/exits, partially becasue it was a TV, so the vacumm need not be as high and therefore the glass not as thick. And since it was a big 32", I shot it about 40 times. The glass was a fine powder when I finished. My larger spud gun using shot, i blew some holes in the back of the shattered case.

I guess in conclusion is that you're not supposed to shoot old electronics with a BB, pellet, spud, or .22lr, it just don't do anythign spectacular. If you want mroe bang, get a rifle and blow huge holes in it.

I've given up entirely with using BB guns or spud guns for breaking things. They're just too weak. Unless you can shoot large steel balls or large iron rods with your gun, you're nto going to have any fun.
I'm looking for a fridge to shoot at now.

Hi,

If you are researching in combustion of hybrid cartridges (a bottle with a pre-compressed fuel-air mixture in them, and a projectile at one end), maybe you can use the microwave as an ignitor for that.

(Drop a paper clip into the cartridge, aim the magnetron through the chamber at the cartridge, and power it up..)

That's my only idea for the microwave. Wireless ignition. But keep a good distance from those waves.

Regards
Soren
