I got the lawn genie valve that i mentioned earlier, and when i unscrewed the top of it, all of the diaphragm and parts were in the top and the bottom was empty- the opposite of the pictures of the one in this thread.
Would work for me just to drill the hole for the blowgun into the bottom of the valve? Or should I return it and buy a different brand/model?
I dont want to just go ahead and do it and possibly waste a $15 valve |

...we really should start a "random valve modding related thread".
That being said, I think (significant uncertainty here) that these diaphrams are intented to be replacable, or at least are not glued down... you should just be able to pull the diaphram out of the lid without much effort. (and if it doesn't come, don't force it!)
And WTF do you mean by "drill the hole in the bottom of the valve"? Up through the outlet port?! |

ignore the drilling the whole in the bottom stuff, i reopened it and pulled the diaphragm and such off of the top
The new problem is that this model has a guide rod. I know that when there's a guide rod, to drill the hole to the side of it. But I don't see a place where i can drill it to the side
any ideas? |

| Im sure there is a way. Let me inlighten you with a saying I have heard alot "if there is a will, there is a way". Put it on a angle what ever it takes or you could always go down to the store and get one without a guide rod. Not to be a fag or anything but you should of been able to figure this out your self. All you need to do is vent air from behind the diaphram I think you can use your imagniation and think of something. Good Luck. |

Well, porting area is the same; however, a sprinkler valve has quite a few internal turns which bring it's effichency down to the low end of 30%. Meanwhile, a supah has only 1 large radius 90* bend - it might be in the mid 60s (no tests have been done on it to my knolage)
Plus, a normal rainbird (assuming that means non-moded) is not going to open as fast. |

| I haven't picked up a solenoid valve yet but I was wondering if you could screw a PVC end cap in where the solenoid used to be and screw your hose adapter into that? |

| no, that "honking" sound can be fixed by using some grease (white lithium if possible) on the diaphragm. The air horn sound is the vibration of the diaphragm seating itself to seal. i got desperate once and used hair conditioner, that worked but it will tend to blow out unlike a heavy grease |

| I saw a gun that uses a 2" Orbit valve which is triggered by a 1" Orbit valve with a blow gun. It's called the 0 Wood and is on the GGDT design gallery. Is there a reason for 1" valve? I was going to just put a ball valve and blow gun on a 2", but I want to make sure I'm not missing something. |

The reason he rigged up the double valve system was because the 2" valve most likely has a larger equilization hole and so if you activated it with a valve that has a low flow the pilot volume would not empty quickly enough to overcome the air flowing from the chamber. This would mean the valve would either just inch open slowly or not open at all.

| would a braided steel hose also work for attaching a blowgun to the sprinkler valve? Amazingly, I had already bought the Orbit Watermaster valve before I saw this page. I have done everything except attach the blowgun to the valve. |

it attaches and i used teflon tape to seal it
the only bad thing is that now ill have to buy another one because i need one for a regulator for a paintball gun to make my pneumatic semi-automatic. |
