I know I'm very new to this site so I don't have much respect but I think I have made something pretty neat and I should share it with this awesome place.

On the weekend I went to Bunnings (not sure if they have bunnings in USA but its a hardware store) and I bought a sprinkler valve, took it home and opened it only to realise its the wrong kind. So I made do.

Before you read this look at how to mod the good kind of sprinkler-valve and completely under-stand it. http://www.spudfiles.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=305&
_______________________________________________________________

Once I have opened up the valve here are the parts.

These 2 bits go together like this.

Here is the spring on top of the top half. (They are not glued to each other) Take note of that hole on the left with the little groove, its important.

Here is the suction cup type thing that goes on top of the first bit that I showed you.

ok now that I have shown you the guts of the valve I will show you how to start modding it.

Remember that hole I said to take not of, well here's why. First drill a guide hole close to the hole, basically so that your hole will end-up where mine did. (Right next to that inner circle)

http://s7.photobucket.com/albums/y298/drummer_guy/IMGP1010.jpg

You might need to grind down the side of where the solenoid was.

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y298/drummer_guy/IMGP1011.jpg

now basically screw or glue your fitting in. Try to only put it in far enough to make the end of the fitting flush with the sides if you know what I mean. Make it so that the fitting doesn't poke out on the inside. I didn't have the right kind-of fitting and the shop that I tried to get them off were selling them for $7!!! So I improvised.

Now do as it says how to in the original modding a sprinler valve tutorial.
http://www.spudfiles.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=305&

Now your done. here's my finished product.

I hope it comes in handy.

This type of valve has the guide rod on the top half of the valve making it imposible to drill the hole in the middle because without the quide rod its screwed. Smile

Quote from the original Modding a sprinkler valve thread.

Quote:
Step 1: Buying the correct valve

The first thing that must be done in order to soup up a sprinkler valve is to buy the valve. There is one major thing to consider when buying a valve, does it or doesn't it have a guide rod? A guide rod is a small metal bar inside the valve that guides the diaphragm. I have found two different valves that don't have guide rods and are very simple to work with and soup up. The first valve is a Rainbird 1” inline automatic sprinkler valve. The second valve, the one pictured below and through out this how to, is a Watermaster 3/4" inline automatic sprinkler valve.

The bold bit is the important bit.

Why not just pull the guide rod. Stick it back through the middle of the diaphragm. Bend it so you have two "L"s (an L on the top and bottom of the diaphragm, making a bracket). and then drill through the top?

I have this eczact same valve. What i did wiht my guide rdo was drill it out and the guide rod hole i filled with epoxy and heated a needle in a candle and melted a little hole for the epuilization.Thats all the guide rod basicly its to help it equalize hte pressure.I off set one of my blow guns on my sprinkler valve due to the guide rod but thne i did this and never looked back and it seems to actualy have more power when i tested the offset blow gun valve with the centred one on the same cannon.

Lots of people have done this, they just drill the hole to the side of the guide rod.
