so how loud is this thing for certain pressures?

im in ozzie surburbia and i think every time my neighbors hear the compressor they start talking louder than usual to try to scare me lol (it works...)

Why would they be mad aout a compressor? just tell em its for air tools or something. Or pay them off Wink

Why not use two at the same time to increase flow?!?!?!

An old ( or new if you feel like it) CO2 bottle would do well as a reservoir to turn this into a proper compressor.

Could it not be possible to order the compressor part??? So you won't have to worry about the freon etc??

the compressor itself is suprisingly quiet.... basically as quiet as a fridge... Smile

the problem is that i have to disconnect the gun after pumping it to fire it and then the air left in the airline is released producing loud "BANG!!"
at 300 psi this really hurts, above 300 psi this hurts even with earplugs... and firing is even louder Confused

I am really considering using as small chamber as possible on my new QEV cannon becasue I don't want to be deaf...

yeah BTB I was considering that...

I did some research and I've found that these pumps as spare parts are quite expensive in the US... however I've seen some offered here in poland for as cheap as 25 PLN, which is about 12 $.

as far as reservoir is concerned I've seen a site where some guy uses a propane tank for this purpose (yeah those bigh propane tanks used for gas ovens and stuff).... he claims it can hold up to 18 bar easilly.... currently I am low on cash and buying a QEV is my priority...

Use a small "bleed valve" on the compressor to drain away the pressure slowly before disconnecting.
All high pressure systems use those.
Better to have pssssssssshhh than BANG!

Instead of a small chamber, you could use a relatively longer barrel.

Mopherman: i would do that except i accidentally shot a marble thru their fence on my second shot with my marble gun...

what if you filled without a hose? like direct quick connect to compressor..no bang? This looks like the way to go for me. Can you get a picture of the whole thing?

That is not a bad idea...
Make the small compressor part of the gun...mm..
if it is small enough that would be nice
just plug it in and fill 'er up!!

you see my main project now is to build a QEV cannon, I've already ordered a QEV but I have to wait to January becasue shipping is delayed or something like that.
Since a QEV gun needs a pilot valve I wouldn't have to disconect the gun from the compressor at all and I could use a pilot valve to reduce the pressure in the hose before disconnecting... so I'll just wait for my QEV to be delivered and then this wouldn't be a problem anymore.

BtB yes it works both ways either a small chamber or very long barrel... I am considering using a 1/2" 100 - 120 cm barrel and 50 cm chamber..... since I am using threaded pipes and fittings I could even make several chambers with different lenghts... like 25 cm chamber for silenced version and 60 cm chamber for more power and change them according to my needs or mood... Very Happy

Right now it has very short hose about 60 cm long... I've ordered 10 m of airhose with a qev so that I wouldn't hve to disonect it when shooting

I don't think it is practical to mount it to a gun it weights about 7kg

Interesting. I'm considering trying to acquire one of these, but I'd want pressures towards the higher end of what they could do, between 25 to 35 bar, ideally around 30.
The higher end of those pressures would allow me to get muzzle energies in the same sort of region as a .357 magnum. I may need something 4 times the weight and 5 times the length, but still, that would still be an achievement.

I'm still trying to find more pressure, and a compressor is a nice lazy way of doing that.

yes it is simple... and easy to make... acctually writing about this toke me much more time than constructing this...It's possibly the cheapest compressor ever Smile

of course if you want to you can add a tank, a pressure switch or a safety valve or even link 2 compressors toghether to increase the flow...
