I dont think thats the type of stick welding their refering to. I have used a stick and they are pretty strait forward. A stick is the best to learn with from what i have heard because if you can do quality welds on stick, you would be a master at MIG. I have used both but i learned on a stick.

in my engineering class we have a MIG and a TIG...i believe TIG would be the stick welder...you basically have a torch and a stick of copper wire...and the MIG is the wire fed...i personally prefer the wire fed...in my opinion its easier to make a quick weld...and over all requires less skill to use...also very low maitenance...if i were to buy one i would for sure buy a MIG

Havent showed you how to weld Stainless or Aluminum then yet?

Tig is the most advanced and professional, it also allows the most control because of the variable amperage. it is also the hardest to learn

I took a course for different kinda of welding and even have a certificate in it:) After I took those lessons I bought an arc welding machine as its cheap and always makes a deep enough weld. With migmag welding you have a high chance of air bubbles if you dont do it right. Also on arc welding you dont have that many settings; only the amps and the gap between the two materials you are welding togethor. Then technique> hold the lance at 70 degrees. I may make it sound easy. But yeah from experience you learn. The problem with arc welding is welding thin pieces of steel. Arc welding doesnt weld aluminium btw. I made a gokart using my welding techniques, check this vid:

The frame is made using 3*3cm steel pipes. I made everything myself except the braking system and the transmission/engine:)
