This shows how much of a POS the earlier versions of phpBB were. One simple space and it broke all the url formatting. In phpBB3 only that link would've been broken and the fix would have been apparent. Simple things like this are also why other forum scripts(vbulletin,simple machine form,invision to name a few) have flourished and not phpBB. BBcode is more intuitive in phpBB3 and attachments are processed easier. |

Very nice job. I created a similar one of these earlier for general purposes: which you can see here.
The only thing I see is the title, in which it is entitled "N00b help" as apposed to helping "Newbies". I know one instance in which a member got mad because I linked him to the page (when he was asking for plans) and believed I was calling him a n00b. Anyway, just something you may wish to consider. |

There is no such thing as an "average velocity" for a combustion spud gun. Well, I suppose there is, but it has absolutely zero meaning.
The velocity of a combustion gun is simply a function of the size of the gun, the CB, ammo, fuel etc. As a very rough estimate the muzzle velocity of a well designed combustion gun, firing spuds, is about 100FPS per foot of barrel length. This works up to the point where the gun is large enough to approach the speed of sound, then it grossly over estimates the velocity.
400 MPH is 587 FPS. At 100 FPS/foot barrel that would be a gun with a ~6 foot barrel. Checking Latke's page his barrel was ~9 feet for the maximum spud velocity of ~350 MPH (not 400 MPH quoted by HowStuffWorks) at CB 0.8. So, 350 MPH is not only possible but it is what Latke measured with a shooting Chrony. 400 MPH is possible will a somewhat larger gun. Latke's gasket slugs were fring at about 430 MPH (630 FPS)
So there is no "obvious mistake" though they did misquote Latke's results. 400 MPH is certainly possible but the particular Latke gun only got a spud up to 350 MPH. |

Well i do know that 400 mph is possible, but i was thinking of a common ammunition (such as a potato) and the average spray-n-pray cannon, that someone with no knowlegde of spudding were simply to get 400 mph with a spray-n-pray, but its just used as an attention getter.
I know that Soren broke the speed of sound with a combustion gun, but i was just thinking that it was misleading to the common public.
Since i know that you know more than me, i do agree with you on every aspect and i know that you have the knowledge to back it up.
I know that 400 mph is not impossible, i was just thinking of what the public views a spudgun as (spray-n-pray) which led me to think its misleading. |

It may be possible to reach 400, but indeed, due to the non-advancedness, its questionable that the number 400 will actually be reached.
Its probably over-estimated. |
