oh no another nubie with questions. ive spent two weeks using the search function and have lerned alot. matter of fact im almost done with my first connon. (a 3" pneumatic "squeaky ball" thrower for my dog. after 5 yrs im getting tennis elbow.) im stuck on the reducer. 4" to 2". i cant find one that has pw on it. i have a bell, wich i prefer, and i have one that slips into a coupling, that would add weight. niether one has pw on it. all my other fittings do. it seems odd that my suppliers would sell pw fittings for everythig but reducers.
do they sell reducers labeled with pw on them?
also, i know that abs is not pressure rated and is inferior to pvc but it seems to me that the pressure in the barrel would be less than in the chamber.
would it be safe to use abs for only the barrel on a pneumatic pushing 125 lbs.
just trying to save weight.

I dont see why it wouldn't be safe for a barrel, as its the chamber that takes in all the pressure. |

| Bell reducers generally aren't pressure rated. You're best bet would be to search online for one. However, Coupler-reducer combo isn't too terribly heavy and is easier to find. |

There is typically no [none] 3" or 4" parts (found at Lowe's and Home Depot anyway) that are are PW rated...only the pipe itself and endcaps...everything else DWV. Even the long sections of pipe are not pressure rated anymore...look for the small 2' sections of "project" pipe. If you need longer sections, you'll have to go to a big-time plumbing store.
You can get away with using sched 40 PVC spig/socket type reducers, stay away from bell reducers on pneumatics. Stay away from anything rated SD.

| thanks guys, this helps. i will be testing my ball launcher tomorrow. i doubt every thing will work perfectly first time around but ill work it out. im eager to get started on what i really want to do, an advanced combustion launcher. |
