Greetings,
First post......so be gentle!
I have been playing with various forms of pneumatic cannons relating to paintball for some time.

Some of the design criteria for this particular build are:
Be portable
Look like artillery
Breech loading
COTS parts (commercial off the shelf)
Deliver 200 paintballs

Here are pics, still need to fab a front "shield" to look more authentic but used it asis very effectively in a Scenario game already:

Gets between 40 and 50 shots from a 20 lb. CO2 tank - depends on charge pressure as I vary between 60 and 100 PSI for range difference.
Shoots 200 paintballs a shot in a sabot. Sabot falls away in less than 25 feet and lets the balls fly alone.
Due to the SUPERIOR aerodynamic quality of paintballs...........yeah right!
Just shoot them up and let them fall gets 50 ish foot groups at 145 yards.
Use a pair of 3/4" aluminum QEVs from McMaster Carr for fire control with pushbutton bleed valves to fire mounted on the "console."
The QEVs are the weak link in the system as they are only rated for 130 PSI.
I have an inline regulator and a safety pop off valve set at 100 PSI to stay within the safety envelope.
Aiming can be challenging when the wind gets up, but shooting down wind in 15 MPH winds adds 20 to 30 yards but spreads the group somewhat.
Cheers,

by the way, nice job on this, what do you get for velocities?
in the upcoming presidential election, there will be several candidates who will be running, one of whom is Hillary Clinton. Now WAIT A SECOND!!! I though there was some sort of rule that prevented someone from serving more than two terms in office. Vote Against Hillary: Presidential Elections 08

Greetings,
I own a field and get some broken paint......
We care and check EVERY bag before the customer gets it.
Any broken paint goes in the "cannon box" for later use.
Since I only do Scenarios 4 times a year, I have a few months to gather ammo between them.
They do break when they free fall from very high and even moreso if they hit someboy.
It it adjustable for elevation, but I keep it angled up so the balls free fall.
In testing, we were shooting gatorade bottles full of water 286 yards in the air with this angle.
Cheers,

That thing is a BEAST of a cannon, nice work. I LOVE the muzzle brake; It looks so much like a howitzer's...

are you talking about it's size, or the paint job?

it probably looks better, but the swat's bigger.

what kind of valve does it use?

how long are the chambers? what diameter?
how long is the barrel? what diameter?

Tsk :P

He said 2x 3/4" aluminum QEVs in the first post.

What kind of range can you get with it? (paintballs I mean)

Welcome. Welcome. Welcome! As a field owner your feedback is truly appreciated.

Finally someone posted right on target of what I was looking to start a feed on safe Paintball Canons!

How high o you need to shoot your paint before guaranteeing they explode?
Personal experience was the following:
I went through the flight in my mind and even did some crude testing with a Smaller Potato Cannon using a 2” x 36 Barrel 3” x 24” chamber. I tried to mortar the other side of a speedball field but the balls just bounced??
Should I use better paint.?
The balls I was using was old and misshapen so I thought it would be perfect for the cannon maybe they were to soft?

Anyone else did any safe testing off this.

This will be my summer project so I cant post any feedback until after finals but anyone else’s experiences would be welcome. 
