Sorry to kick this up, but its better than starting a new thread.

I have been thinking about these plans, and my lack of experience and tools for this project. Perhaps there is some simpler way to get semi-auto fire that I missed? I basicly need a way to deliver a pulsed air stream to the bolt.

I was considering using two sprinkler valves between the bolt and CO2; the bolt valve would open on trigger pull, and the CO2 valve would open on release. Given the small scale of the chamber, would the valves seal fast enough to shoot about 10 bps? I was thinking of modding the bolt sprinkler valve, and keeping the second solonoid-activated, as it does not need to be as fast.

I've had the same idea. First I was going to make a semi auto paintball, but then saw how complicated it could be. So I just made a simple pneumatic to figure out how the basics work. My next gun will hopefully be similar to this.

In theory, it looks like this should work. And the velocity (if you regulate it to) can definetly go way faster than a normal paintball gun.

So if you get any new ideas, run them by me too and if I get any ideas, I'll PM you. 2 brains are always better than one.

Why not get your hands on a three way valve - valve is at rest, CO2 tank feeds into piston valve pilot chamber. valve is activated, co2 pupply to pilot chamber closed off, pilot chamber vents to atmosphere and fires - and so on.

You can find such a unit ready-made and at low cost - have a look at small pneumatic nailers Wink

would nailers be powerful enough and have a large enough flow for paintball?? i doubt it, maybe airsoft but not paintballs.

Thats what I was wondering. I was trying to think just how I would use the valve. Perhaps I will just buy a three way big enough.

uhm 2 sprinkler valves design doesn't work the surge causes the firing valve to "honk" and it releases a lot of air before it closes, your the millionth person who thought of that but it only works for slow ball valves,

why not just buy a sleeve valve and a QEV on Mcmasters to make a slider more professional premade parts will increse your guns reliablity which will be huge if your playing paint ball, and know your local field rules before you make your own gun

also with the amount of flow on a smaller HEAR valve it will most likely be full auto and have poor consistency which is huge for a sniper

finallly why the heck whould you use sch120 pvc for the barrel, use 3/4" cpvc for the barrel and bolt

3/4" cpvc doesnt fit paintballs. At least with the ones I use.

Since the launcher is being built specifically for paintball, why isn't a barrel specifically for paintball not being used, say a Lapco Bigshot or something?

@ iknowmy3tables - I do not think the valves would honk if a big enough pilot valve was used. However, I did think resealing would be a problem for fast fire. A QEV suitable for my needs would be expensive, and I am trying to keep this below 100-150 USD.
Also, why would a HEAR valve be inconsistent? on a smaller scale, It would fill faster (hopefully less than 1/10 sec), so it should get a consistent output. The auto could be controlled with a valve between the supply and HEAR valve, so that for each pull there is only one shot. Or it could be used to bullcrap the staff into thinking it was semi. Twisted Evil Again, these are only plans, so if you have a better idea tell me! Finally, sch 120 has the best fit for a paintball, and accuracy is determined by a tight fit. When I pick out a barrel I will test fit a paintball to find which is best.

@hubb017 - because I'm cheap, and price is a factor. Laughing A homemade one cam be rifled, I do not need special thread adapters, and I can add a silencer and hop-up.

Even my small shitty nailer has a "barrel" - the section where the hammer fits - diameter of 30mm, more than enough for paintball - in fact, a bit overkill.

relatively easy - remove the magazine and safety, then you'd have to open it and remove the hammer, and replace it with a feed tube that will go into your breech reloading system, same as I did here - I've attached a basic diagram.

Sweet, maybe that is the way to go. Barrel at the front, helical mag attached to pilot!
