What you should try is an acetal cup with as much material removed as possible to keep it light, then machine a subcalibre penetrator of say 40-50% of the barrel diameter with a hollow tail that fits in the cup loosely enough to come apart in flight.
You should get better penetration and flight characteristics thanks to higher velocity (due to the lower total weight of projectile+sabot) and improved ballistic co-efficient.

| I just found out yesterday that you can get the same desired effect a little worse accuracy but still the same effect by putting about 1.4cm worth of straw over the bb.

| Out of curiosity, had you made the projectile I had suggested above?

No i have not, I did use the basic idea to get through the coins, however it was not "discarding".
I want to use the sabot design in my 33.7 mm but i have so many thing to make- i getted confused at times
I love this stuff, too much sometimes ( so me missus reckons )
Edit: I am also a stupid perfectionist-It has to be made right damn it.!

I've used that idea before, If it was directed at me. But along time ago with my old Touch hole Combustion (may it rest in peace).
I currently don't have/own a gun that would use one of them.
Sorry .

Hey Red, today i succeded in making these out of Hot Glue, I also made some from Epoxy. JSR would be so proud!!
I use an aluminium mould witch i found had to heated (blowtorch or hot-plate) to allow the glue to fall completely around the bb (or sinker in this case), otherwise the glue would harden upon contact with bb and cause it to not form a nice round head around it (the bb). It also helps to remove bubbles and leaves a little dent in the bottom of the round.
The Epoxy ones were the easiest to make however tolerance would be critical (Epoxy does'nt compress a little like hot glue does when set) for good
"usability". I won't post pics unless someone requests that i do.
I have found that some people don't have the capacity to view large amounts of pics (or download space)
I hope this has helped.

| A video would be cool comparing a normal projectile i.e. a marble or bb, to one of these projectiles.

Marbles don't fit in any of my Launchers
The size i use most of is 12.7mm and most marbles i can get are 16- 16.5mm, the closest barrel i have is 18mm. That would mean wadding and no accuracy in a test.
One other problem, i have video footage on a mates dv camera and i can't get it to load to movie maker (xp) it's a DCR-TRV285E Pal, whatever the heck that means, (iv'e got Hybrid footage plus said 18mm footage).
These would crap all over a bb or any other "sphere" in terms of accuracy, you lose some distance though due to the heavier and "draggier" round (new word)

Oh, Well maybe compare a lead sinker to one of these.
Metal bb's would be alright though, provided our government gets over itself.

Balls or bb's are subject to unstable flight due to some law in physics.
They act like a self contained wing as such-depending on witch way or axis they decide to spin. In short, they suck (My opinion only, no correspondance shall be entered into )
