Thats not a bad idea. Idea

As far as materials are concerned we were planning on using Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMW) for the back plate and the piston. everything else is just scheduled pipe fittings. UMHW is oil filled and very slick (and cheap).

I've been getting split impressions on machining it though. Some people say its a [female doggy] to machine others say is easier than most plastics.

I've heard that UHMW Polyethylene is very easy to machine. Also heard good things about Delrin (don't know if they are different; believe they are related).

UHMW and Delrin are the "self-lubricating" type plastics. Delrin is a little on the expensive side. And it doesn't have a high impact strength either comparative to UHMW.

Modified piston, along the lines of what gippeto suggested. Reduces weight without increasing the pilot volume.

Thanks, we used NX 5 to draw everything, and then we just took images of the screen with snipping tool (Vista only, I think).
