This is my first real attempt at a spud launcher. I have made several minis, some ( very dangerously ) out of non rated pipes and soda bottles, and one sad attempt at a PVC one, all combustion. This is my first real attempt at making one thats nice and safe, also my first pneumatic. It uses a 3/4" stainless steel ball valve, which I know most of you are going to look down on, but I have to say it opens very quickly ( thanks to alot of wd40 ), much much faster than the PVC ball valves. The barrel is 1/2" and the chamber is 1 1/4". The only thing I would change on it is the shrader valve and the poor placement of it. The pressure gauge and the T that it mounts off of as well as the support were added after I had 'finished' it, or else I would have placed the shrader valve on the metal fittings were the pressure gauge is. The shrader valve ( the only one that I could find ) is supposed to be used for car tires, it has a huge round rubber peice behind it and I know that there is no way in hell that it will be expelled from the pipe. I also belive it said it was rated to 160psi on the box. I may add a second brace soon because the barrel slopes downward about 1/4" from the valve. I don't care to much about the 'purple paint job', but I may paint it some day anyways.

For ammo, I bought 4, 4' long half inch dowl rods. I wrap the ends in duct tape just enough so that its a good fit ( for some reason they are not quite 1/2" ), and at 100psi they can do some real damage, and they are also reusable, I hate wasting potatos/frozen grapes. I may have some damage pictures tomorrow.

Thats a great first gun dude, Id stick with a ball valve, but some will tell you to use a sprinkler valve. Ball valves are fine and its he's first gun so why not leave it intact? LEAVE HIM ALONE!

Oh i am so sorry, me drunk or smthing.

Great first gun, although you should paint it.

I dont hate ball valve cannons. Sprinkler valves screw up all the time, homemade piston valves can break, burst disks are annoying as hell.... but a ball valve cannon pretty much doesnt break (I have found that premade QEV's dont screw up either, but thats a different story)

Anyways, nice!

Sprinkler valves work for me pritty well. And nothing wrong with a ball valve used one for about 2 years they go well.

Modifications to the valve or barrel are too dificult now that my brace is cemented to the barrel. I may extend my barrel with a coupler and length of pipe.

I have this idea of getting a 3 inch pipe, capping it off on both ends, and connecting it to my chamber with another ball valve, so I can just fill it up to ~100psi and get quite a few shots out of it without having to go back and fill up every time. Bad idea or good idea?

That's not what my nick means btw.

Cool gun. Simple and easy. Your next gun should how ever at least need a sprinkler valve, or bether (and more fun to make I think) a piston valve.

I was considering a QEV. Although I do enjoy manually creating and modifying things, I find premade things tend to malfunction less and last longer. I don't have that much room to shoot stuff. I live in a golf course area which gives me space to shoot stuff far but it is suburban and I try to keep it quite and accurate as possible.
